Rising star of musical theatre, Cassidy Janson is confirmed to join the cast of AVENUE Q this fall. She takes over the roles of Kate Monster and Lucy the Slut from Julie Atherton on October 5 as the show enters its new booking period. Cassidy gained attention when she covered and appeared in the role of Elphaba in the West End hit Wicked. Some things aren't only for now! Announced from the stage tonight by producer Kevin McCollum was the unprecedented news that AVENUE Q was making theatre history by moving BACK off Broadway and that it will re-open on October 9, 2009 at New World Stages. The show will be presented in its entirety and from the same production, design and producer team as its current Broadway incarnation. An official announcement is expected tomorrow.
After 6 years on Broadway the Tony Award-winning musical AVENUE Q will play its final performance today, SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 13th, 2009. It will have played 2,534 performances and 22 previews, surpassing THE PRODUCERS (on August, 17th), ANNIE, OKLAHOMA!, and PIPPIN, among many others to become the 20th longest running show in Broadway history.
After breaking box office records and selling out in record time in 2007, WICKED, the smash-hit musical will return to Providence, RI, December 16, 2009 through January 10, 2010. Everything you've heard about Wicked is true; it's an awe-inspiring stage spectacle filled with special effects, gorgeous sets and lighting, exquisite costumes, an amazingly gifted cast, a glorious musical score and an immensely entertaining, yet slightly irreverent (and maybe even a little subversive) script. It also has plot points so broad that you could drive a freight train through them, but if you're willing to suspend disbelief and allow yourself to become totally immersed in the phenomenon, you can't help but walk away tremendously satisfied, humming those wonderful tunes and having a sort of 'which came first: the chicken or the egg' debate with your companions.
