Nominees for the 2014 LA STAGE Alliance Ovation Awards were announced on the evening of Monday, September 22 at Native Voices at the Autry National Center in Los Angeles. The nominations were revealed by past Ovation Award recipients Gigi Bermingham, Brighid Fleming, Parmer Fuller, Jennifer Haley, Brian Kite, Glynn Turman, and John Zalewski, along with LA STAGE Alliance Chief Executive Officer Terence McFarland.

Unbound Productions Executive Director Jonathan Josephson, Artistic Director Paul Millet, and Producing Artistic Director Jeff G. Rack have announced details for WICKED LIT 2014, the 6th annual immersive theatre event that will take place at Mountain View Mausoleum and Cemetery in Altadena, California. The production will run from October 3-November 8, 2014.

According to Blank Artistic Producer Noah Wyle, "THE WHY is a truly original take on a very serious and very complex subject: what is happening to the youth of America? Why are kids killing each other? Who or what is to blame? Through blended styles, mixed media, and a constant shifting between drama, farce, satire, and melodrama, THE WHY… manages to debunk several popular theories being touted by 'experts' in the media. Its continued relevance is frightening." And personally, I love theater that makes you think, even if there is no apparent answer to the questions being asked.

The Blank Theatre has announced that the first production of its 24th season will be The Why by Victor Kaufold, directed by Henning. The opening is set for tonight, September 20 at 8pm. The engagement will run through October 19.

LA MIRADA THEATRE FOR THE PERFORMING ARTS & MC COY RIGBY ENTERTAINMENT present the first production in its 2014-2015 season with the Tony Award-winning GOOD PEOPLE, written by David Lindsay-Abaire (Rabbit Hole, Fuddy Meers) and directed by Jeff Maynard (Broadway Bound, Boeing-Boeing). GOOD PEOPLE will feature Katie MacNichol, Anne Gee Byrd, Gigi Bermingham, Wyatt Fenner, Sophina Brown and Martin Kildare.

This October, actress CATHY LIND HAYES will bring her show The Beauty, The Banshee & Me to the fifth annual United Solo Festival, the world's largest solo theatre event, for its World Premiere. Written and performed by Hayes, the show is a tribute to both the mother who raised her, and the woman who gave her up.

What of the Night? is a poignant saga chronicling the life of Birdie and her family as they traverse the moral and financial bankruptcy that is poverty. Destitute and isolated, a 14-year old Birdie makes the brave decision to leave her family. 'I want something from life!' she cries as she abandons her loved ones in hopes of finding something more than sickness and crime. This decision propels Birdie, her family, and the viewer into a 60-year journey where estranged family and friends entwine and collide in poetic stories of love, impoverishment, and dreams. Maria Irene Fornes delivers a masterful piece of theatre that entertains us, humors us, breaks our hearts, and ultimately challenges us to examine our own complicity in the unbridled divide between the haves and the have nots across America today.

Megan Hilty, was a breakout star of NBC's "Smash" and starred on Broadway in "Wicked" and "9 to 5: The Musical." She most recently starred as Liz on NBC's "Sean Saves The World" with Sean Hayes of "Will & Grace" fame. She returns to the original Broadway @ The Art House series this month by popular demand after her sold-out debut run at the theater last summer.
