Pittsburgh Public Theater kicks off its ‘Red Hot' season this month with Sophocles ELECTRA, continuing its now-annual tradition of offering new stagings of ancient Greek plays in their seasonal mix. Running now through October 30, this explosive piece effectively kicks off the PPT's 2011-2012 ‘sizzling hot' theme; Artistic Director Ted Pappas' ELECTRA is a mesmerizing 90 minutes filled with adultery, assassination and revenge.

Can a parent love a child just for him or herself alone? Ensemble Studio Theatre/LA will present the West Coast premiere of a darkly comic, yet poignant new play about childhood in America. Inspired by the unsolved murder of six-year old JonBenét Ramsey, House of Gold by Gregory Moss opens on October 22 at Atwater Village Theatre, with low-priced previews beginning October 15.

The Kennedy Center presents Mabou Mines DollHouse in the Eisenhower Theater from October 20-22, 2011. Conceived and directed by Lee Breuer and adapted by Lee Breuer and Maude Mitchell, Mabou Mines DollHouse adapts the classic Ibsen story of A Doll's House in a production featuring original music and a collage of Edvard Grieg's piano works assembled by Eve Beglarian. Press night is Thursday, October 20 at 7:30 p.m.

People's Light & Theatre will host Theater of War Productions, a social impact company that presents readings of ancient Greek plays, with two readings of Sophocles' Ajax on Monday, October 17th and Monday, November 28th at 7pm on the Main Stage.

Aquila Theatre's Ancient Greeks/Modern Lives has been invited to perform a staged reading of Scenes From Ancient Greek Literature for the administration and members of Congress at the White House on November 16th 2011. Ancient Greeks/Modern Lives: Poetry-Drama-Dialogue is a major new national public program by Aquila Theatre of New York, supported by a prestigious Chairman's Special Award from the National Endowment of the Humanities (NEH) aimed at bringing the veteran community and public together around the ancient works.
