The New York Philharmonic will present the second season of THE ART OF THE SCORE: Film Week at the Philharmonic September 16-20, 2014, offering two concert programs of film music - La Dolce Vita: The Music of Italian Cinema and Charlie Chaplin's Modern Times: The Tramp at 100 - that highlight some of the genre's most distinctive uses of music. Music Director Alan Gilbert opens the New York Philharmonic's 2014-15 season on September 16 with the Opening Gala Concert, La Dolce Vita: The Music of Italian Cinema, with special guest Martin Scorsese, Oscar-winning director and film preservation proponent, who will deliver welcoming and introductory remarks. Award-winning actor, Philharmonic Board Member, and Philharmonic Radio Host Alec Baldwin returns as Artistic Advisor of THE ART OF THE SCORE.

"Cello goddess" (The New Yorker) Maya Beiser releases her next album Uncovered on August 26, 2014 on the Innova label, followed by aUS tour in September 2014 to cities including New York, Boston, Philadelphia, San Francisco, Los Angeles, and more (tour schedule to be announced in early July). Uncovered is an album of startling classic rock tunes, re-imagined and re-contextualized, in stunningly moving performances by Maya Beiser. A cover tune can be an homage to the original, but these "uncovers," in new arrangements by Evan Ziporyn, attempt to do more - to evoke the unprecedented power of the music of Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, Pink Floyd, Nirvana, Janis Joplin, Howlin' Wolf, King Crimson, Muddy Waters, and AC/DC as musical masterpieces and as totems of our collective consciousness.

Governor & Mrs. Dannel Malloy have lent their names as Honorary Chairs for Music Mountain's Gala & Concert to celebrate America's Oldest Continuing Summer Chamber Music Festival's 85th Anniversary Season. Concert aficionados from around the country will be attending the Saturday, June 7th festivities which includes a gala reception at 5:30pm and a 6:30pm concert featuring the esteemed and nationally acclaimed Emerson String Quartet. The Emerson will perform a very special program featuring the Music Mountain premiere of Haydn: Quartet in G Minor, Op. 20, No. 3; Mendelssohn: Quartet in F Minor, Op. 80 - being performed for only the 4th time in Music Mountain's rich 85 year history; and Schubert: Quartet D Minor, 'Death and the Maiden.' --- one of Music Mountain's favorite, in its 29th Music Mountain performance. The Los Angeles Master Chorale (LAMC) has announced that eminent Music Director Grant Gershon will continue his key leadership role at the choir's helm through the 2019-2020 season, which will be his 19th season with the chorus, with the new title of Artistic Director effective July 1, 2014, according to LAMC Chair David Gindler.
