Virginia Repertory Theatre Presents ATLANTIS: A NEW MUSICAL

Virginia Repertory Theatre announces the opening of Atlantis: A New Musical on Friday, April 12, 2019 at the November Theatre/Arenstein Stage, 114 West Broad Street. The show will run through Sunday, May 5, 2019.  Previews will be on Wednesday, April 10 and Thursday, April 11, 2019.

Sarasota Opera Welcomes Back NABUCCO For The First Time Since 1995

Amidst a setting of ancient times, Nabucco-king of Babylon-conquers the Hebrews, destroys their holy temple of Solomon and takes them into captivity. Meanwhile, his daughters Fenena and Abigaille both yearn for the forbidden affection of the Israelite Ismael. Her love unrequited, Abigaille is obsessed with vengeance. In the ultimate act of hubris, Nabucco declares that he is God and is struck mad by a thunderbolt. Will he regain his reason, repent, and return the Jews to their homeland?

Boston Symphony Orchestra Returns to Carnegie Hall for Two March Concerts

The Boston Symphony Orchestra returns to Carnegie Hall this March for two back-to-back programs in Stern Auditorium / Perelman Stage. In an all-Richard Strauss program on Tuesday, March 19 at 8:00 p.m., music director and conductor Andris Nelsons and the BSO are joined by world-renowned soprano Renee Fleming for the closing scene in the composer's final opera, Capriccio, on a program also including the Sextet and Moonlight Music from that opera, as well as the tone poem Also sprach Zarathustra.

Boston Symphony Orchestra's Live Recording Of Busoni Piano Concerto To Be Released By Myrios Classic

Pianist Kirill Gerstein has long championed the music of Ferruccio Busoni (1866–1924), and this spring marks his most ambitious engagement with the composer's work—a live recording of Busoni's monumental Piano Concerto with the Boston Symphony Orchestra and men of the Tanglewood Festival Chorus, conducted by Sakari Oramo. The album, whose ties to Boston also extend to Mr. Gerstein and the composer himself, is released by Myrios Classics digitally on Friday, March 1 and on disc in North America on Friday, March 15. Winners Of The 2019 George London Awards Are Announced

The winners of the 48th annual George London Foundation Awards Competition for young American and Canadian opera singers were announced at the conclusion of the competition's final round this evening, which took place before an enthusiastic audience at Gilder Lehrman Hall at The Morgan Library & Museum in New York City.

Works & Process At The Guggenheim Presents OCTET By Dave Malloy

Three-time Tony Award-nominee Dave Malloy (Natasha, Pierre & the Great Comet of 1812) begins his residency as Signature's first musical theatre writer with the world premiere of Octet, a musical directed by Annie Tippe (Ghost Quartet). Featuring a score for an a cappella chamber choir and an original libretto inspired by internet comment boards, scientific debates, religious texts, and Sufi poetry, Octet explores addiction and nihilism within the messy context of 21st century technology. Artistic director Paige Evans moderates a discussion with Malloy and Tippe, with cast members performing highlights prior to the premiere.
