The Flat Rock Playhouse 2015 season will continue with the Pulitzer Prize and New York Drama Critics Circle Award winning Crimes of the Heart, which will run from August 20th through September 6th at the Playhouse Downtown in Historic Downtown Hendersonville.

The hottest news of the week as far as plays for the new season are concerned is the surprise announcement that the mainstage adaptation of Stephen King's iconic best-selling novel and its subsequent Academy Award-winning feature film adaptation, MISERY, would be coming to Broadway with Hollywood headliner Bruce Willis and a new leading lady in place of the previously announced Elizabeth Marvel - no less than three-time Emmy Award-winning stage and screen notable Laurie Metcalf. Of course, Metcalf will be essaying the operatically dramatic role of the ultimate all-time uber fan Annie Wilkes in the tale of a writer rescued from a horrific car accident by his number one fan only to be trapped and tortured at her secluded cabin in the deep backwoods of Maine. Kathy Bates memorably took home a Best Actress Oscar for her turn in the 1990 film and acclaimed screenwriter William Goldman told me himself in our InDepth InterView about the new stage version of the story that he originally wrote the role in the film explicitly for Bates, as revealed in our exclusive 2012 conversation here. Surely, now is the ideal time to consider some spectacular dramatic actresses who just might be the right replacements should the run of the play extend beyond Metcalf's involvement in the production - and Willis's, too, for that matter.

Brendan Powers who is currently starring in Penobscot Theatre Company's production of August: Osage County will be teaching a master class at the Bangor Opera House on May 16, from 10:00 am to 12:30 pm. 'Selling the Scene: Keys to a Compelling Performance' has been designed to engage participants in actively working on scenes with insight and guidance from Powers, a veteran performer and master instructor. It is appropriate for adults and high school students. The cost is $25.

Sally Kellerman, the Oscar-nominated “Hot Lips” of the original “M*A*S*H,” will bring her new show, “A Little Jazz, a Little Blues, a Little Rock and Roll” to the new Dave Koz Lounge at Spaghettini Beverly Hills on Friday, May 1 at 8:30 PM. The acclaimed show is a celebration of her 40-year cabaret career, from early years at Reno Sweeney in Greenwich Village up to recent performances in New York, Hollywood and San Francisco.

On March 20, Netflix released its newest critically acclaimed drama BLOODLINE. This dark and twisted tale, which feels like a Southern Gothic novel, tells the story of one seemingly stable family in the Florida Keys, and how their world comes crashing down with the return of the family's black sheep. When a shy girl Carrie (Emily Lopez) has her period for the first time in the girls' shower after PE class, she experiences a devastating ridicule by most of her classmates. She's bright, but dresses shabbily and doesn't know how to stand her ground. At home her mother Margaret (Misty Cotton), a Christian fundamentalist, abuses her in a different way, leading her to believe that she is basically bad and that only Jesus can saver her soul. Carrie discovers that she has telekinesis, a power to move objects at will. When things do not work out for her as she attemps to fit in at the high school prom, she takes control, punishing everyone around her.

Last week we introduced you to Emily Lopez, soon to be playing Carrie in the revival of CARRIE THE MUSICAL at La Mirada Theatre for the Performing Arts.
