Television, film and stage actress Harriet Harris (Television: 'Desperate Housewives' and 'Frasier;' Film: Nurse Betty, Memento; Guthrie: The Glass Menagerie, A Midsummer Night's Dream; Broadway: Thoroughly Modern Millie) and stage and film actor Simon Jones (Television: 'Brideshead Revisited;' Broadway: Blithe Spirit; Guthrie: Shadowlands, The Home Place) will lead the cast as Judith and David Bliss-the matriarch and patriarch of the peculiar Bliss family. Rounding out the family are John Skelley as Simon (Guthrie: Charley's Aunt) and Cat Walleck in her Guthrie debut as Sorel.

SUPER SHAW 2011, a lively and irreverent evening of George Bernard Shaw, took place yesterday at 7pm at The Players Club (16 Gramercy Park South) in Manhattan. David Staller produced and directed SUPER SHAW 2011, which presented Charles Busch as Eliza Doolittle, Judith Ivey as Saint Joan, Alison Fraser as Cleopatra, and others in scenes from PYGMALION, CANDIDA, MRS. WARREN'S PROFESSION, CAESAR AND CLEOPATRA, ARMS AND THE MAN, MAJOR BARBARA, THE APPLE CART and more.

PS Classics has announced that Yeston's DEATH TAKES A HOLIDAY will get cast recording release on October 11th, available for pre-order now. Kevin Earley will sing the lead role on the album, since Julian Ovenden left the show.

The unfortunate case of laryngitis inflicting Death Takes A Holiday's leading man, Julian Ovenden, divided press reservations for the new musical into 'before' and 'after.' I was originally scheduled to see the show the week of its opening, but when understudy Kevin Earley began filling in, many of us were, understandably, put on hold to wait for his return.

Roundabout Theatre Company opened Death Takes a Holiday last night, July 21, 2011 at the Laura Pels Theatre at the Harold and Miriam Steinberg Center for Theatre. As reported yesterday, leading man Julian Ovenden was unable take part in the opening because of a case of laryngitis. His understdy, Kevin Earley, stepped in to play the role of Prince Sirki/Death. He will remain in the show until Ovenden returns, which is expected to be sometime next week.
