Stage Directors and Choreographers Foundation (SDCF) is now accepting nominations for The Zelda Fichandler Award. This award presents an unrestricted grant of $5,000 to an outstanding director or choreographer making an exceptional contribution to the national arts landscape through theatre work in a region. In 2013, the award will honor achievement in the Central region, comprised of Alabama, Arkansas, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, and Wisconsin.

The Pasadena Playhouse announced today that it would present the One Pearl and a Sphinx production of LETTERS FROM ZORA which will play a five performance, limited engagement starring Vanessa Bell Calloway. LETTERS FROM ZORA, written by Gabrielle Pina, directed by Anita Dashielle-Sparks with live music composed by Ron McCurdy is scheduled to play from August 15 - 18, 2013, with a press opening night on August 15 at 8:00 p.m. Tickets are now on sale for all performances.
BLUES IN THE NIGHT uses the great blues and jazz songs of the 1920s and 30s to explore the lives of three women and a saloon singer in a 'cheap hotel' during the course of a long memory-filled evening. The 26 songs celebrate the blues melodies of Bessie Smith, Jimmy Cox, Duke Ellington, Alberta Hunter and songs by Harold Arlen, Benny Goodman, Andy Razaf, Johnny Mercer and others.

Roulette presents Peter Gordon's Love of Life Orchestra on Wednesday, June 5 at 8pm. The Love of Life orchestra (LOLO) will perform Symphony #5 which emphasizes the orchestral dimension of the Love of Life Orchestra. Symphony #5, a new work, is a culmination of work Peter Gordon has been composing over the past 5 years in a multimovement format. It is compositionally intricate, at the same time allowing for the musical personae of the musicians to come forth.

The season will include a revival of the longest-running Broadway musical revue, Smokey Joe's Cafe featuring the musical masterpieces of the legendary team of Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller; Stoneface, by Vanessa Claire Stewart and starring French Stewart ("3rd Rock From the Sun") which enjoyed a successful run at Sacred Fools Theatre Company this past summer and recently won five LA Weekly Theatre Awards; Above the Fold, a new drama by Bernard Weinraub, about the world of journalism in the digital age, which received a HOTHOUSE at The Playhouse staged reading in 2012; Noel Coward's rarely produced A Song at Twilight, directed by Art Manke, who recently directed The Playhouse's hit revival of Coward's Fallen Angels; and a theatrical surprise production that will be selected and directed by Playhouse Artistic Director Sheldon Epps, to be announced at a later date. Panto at The Playhouse returns with Lythgoe Family Productions' special musical twist on the classic Aladdin tale with Aladdin and His Winter Wish, which will be offered as a holiday season add-on. The 2013-2014 Season begins September 2013. The Pasadena Playhouse announced that the theatre would host the THIRD ANNUAL HIGH SCHOOL THEATRE FESTIVAL today, April 27, from 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. The event will feature fifteen local high schools, each performing a theatrical piece of their selection. Admission to the Festival is $5.00 and all proceeds will go towards funding next year's High School Theatre Festival. This special, non-competitive, event was created so that all friends, family and supporters of the surrounding communities and the local schools may enjoy the talent of the participating students. This year's event will also feature surprise celebrity guest appearances.
