Angela Lansbury recently sat down with Entertainment Weekly to discuss the upcoming remake of Beauty and the Beast starring Emma Watson and Dan Stevens.

British playwright Shelagh Delaney was a precocious young woman with a keen eye for detail and a gift for naturalistic dialogue. She reached the height of her literary fame at 19 with the premiere of her play A TASTE OF HONEY which she wrote in just two weeks. Much to her dismay, Delaney was often called 'an angry young woman' since she grew up in working class Salford, a gritty industrial neighbor of Manchester. And much of that environment is reflected in her Tony Award winning play which tells the story of Jo, a teenage girl abandoned in a working class town by her slatternly mother and her lover, a gentle black sailor who leaves her pregnant when he returns to sea. But it is another outcast, a homosexual man, who cares for her and provides the only true solace Jo has ever known, though he, too, is destined to leave.

After a special evening, where Lansbury performed the titular classic 'Beauty and the Beast' with Alan Menken accompanying her on the piano, she sat down with BroadwayWorld to chat about the impact of the film. 

In a new interview this morning when asked about her planned Broadway return in THE CHALK GARDEN, Angela Lansbury told BroadwayWorld.com's Richard Ridge exclusively that 'I have decided against coming back to Broadway.'

In response to popular demand, The Pearl Theatre Company extends Shelagh Delaney's A Taste of Honey to October 30. Directed by Austin Pendleton, this production marks the play's first New York revival in 35 years.

Kim Rubinstein, director of last season's award-winning revival of Anna Christie, returns to the Odyssey Theatre Ensemble at the helm of one of the great defining and taboo-breaking plays of the 1950s. A Taste of Honey is set to open on Sept. 24 starring Eric Hunicutt, Gerard Joseph, Kestrel Leah, Leland Montgomery and Sarah Underwood Saviano.

Just last night, the York Theatre Company honored Broadway and Hollywood legend Angela Lansbury with the 2015 Oscar Hammerstein Award for Lifetime Achievement in Musical Theatre. Happy Birthday Angela Lansbury! Lansbury - who returned to Broadway in this year's revival of THE BEST MAN - has enjoyed an unprecedented career, first as a star of motion pictures, and then as an award-winning stage actor in New York and London. She appeared as Madame Armfeldt in the 2009 revival of A Little Night Music, and before that as Madame Arcati in the 2009 revival of Noel Coward's Blithe Spirit, for which she won her fifth Tony Award, as well as Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle Awards. She performed in 2006 in Terrence McNally's Deuce, for which she was also nominated for a Tony Award. She made her Broadway debut in 1957 as Bert Lahr's wife in Hotel Paradiso. In 1960, she returned to Broadway as Joan Plowright's mother in the season's most acclaimed drama, A Taste of Honey, by Shelagh Delaney. A year later, she starred in her first musical, Anyone Can Whistle. Lansbury returned to Broadway in triumph in 1966 in Mame, for which she won her first Tony Award.
