SYBARITE5 Announces New Orchestra Program, Album Release, And Tour Dates

Sybarite5 has quickly established a reputation for questioning audiences' perceptions of What is music? and Who plays what? Inspired by the alternative band Radiohead, the quintet continues to push the boundaries of what is concert music. Everything In Its Right Place brings it all full circle in a cohesive showcase of Sybarite5's regular playlist now accompanied by a symphonic orchestra. California Symphony Presents the World Premiere of TANGLE EYE, 5/7

 Music Director Donato Cabrera leads the California Symphony in the world premiere of the newly-commissioned cello concerto, Tangle Eye, by its current Young American Composer-in-Residence, Dan Visconti, with soloist Inbal Segev on Sunday, May 7 at 4 pm at the Lesher Center for the Arts in Walnut Creek. The Israeli-American cellist, now based in New York, is a champion of contemporary music, and performs as a soloist with a Bay Area orchestra for the first time in the Orchestra's May 7 season finale. This is Visconti's final work as a Young American Composer-in-Residence with the Orchestra; his residency ends this year. The California Symphony also performs Bruckner's Symphony No. 6 for the first time in its 30-year history, and the program opens with Beethoven's Coriolan Overture.

From September 3 through September 11, 2014, the critically acclaimed Silk Road Ensemble will travel to Europe for a concert tour with renowned cellist Yo-Yo Ma, bringing their unique border-crossing musical experience to audiences in Izmir and Istanbul, Turkey; Paris; Amsterdam; and Luxembourg. This tour marks the first performances by the group in Turkey and Luxembourg. A full tour schedule with information for individual concerts is available on the Silkroad website.

The internationally acclaimed Arab-Israeli singer/songwriter Mira Awad is joined by three special guests during her week long engagement at the Metropolitan Room, 34 West 22nd Street starting next Tuesday June 4. On Wednesday June 5, Awad welcomes from Israel the singer-songwriter David Broza; on Thursday June 6, the New York-based percussionist Shane Shanahan joins Awad, and on Friday June 7, Ernie Hammes, the trumpeter from Luxembourg, makes a special appearance. Appearing with Awad throughout the week is guitarist Avi Fox-Rosen. All shows through Saturday June 8 are at 7pm. Check out photos from the concert below!
