Photo Flash: Portland Center Stage Presents AN ILLIAD

Former Ashland Associate Artistic Director Penny Metropulos and veteran performer Joseph Graves will pick up the gauntlet thrown by adaptors Denis O'Hare and Lisa Peterson and spin the western world's oldest yarn into a freshly riveting tale in An Iliad, launching a thousand ships this Fall in the Ellyn Bye Studio. An Iliad previews on Tuesday September 28th, opens on Friday, October 1st, and runs Tuesday through Sunday through November 21st.

TPS Honors Walker with Gregory A. Falls Award

Theatre Puget Sound (TPS) is pleased to announce the recipient of this year's Gregory A. Falls Sustained Achievement Award: M. Burke Walker. A freelance director in Manhattan since 1999, M. Burke Walker lived and worked in Seattle from 1966-1999. He was the Founding Artistic Director of the Empty Space Theatre which he led for twenty years. His regional directing credits include theaters throughout the United States; locally, in addition to the Empty Space Theater, he has worked with Seattle Repertory Theatre, Intiman Theatre, ACT Theatre, Tacoma Actors Guild, theatre simple and Seattle Shakespeare Festival (now Company). For a full bio, please see attached file. Mr. Walker will be honored at this year's Gregory Awards ceremony.

Olney Presents DINNER WITH FRIENDS, 8/25-9/26

No one ever said marriage was easy, as Donald Margulies's Pulitzer Prize-winning Dinner With Friends reveals. Dinner With Friends plays the Mulitz-Gudelsky Theatre Lab August 25 through September 26. WTE Presents STINKY FLOWERS AND THE BAD BANANA, 10/7-24

Sinclair, Sam, and Stu discover the audience in their attic. Clearly, these quiet strangers are going to eat them, so they distract the hungry savages by telling them their grandfather's original fairytales. With these vivid, multi-media stories the siblings discover the answer to, 'are we still loved after the person who loved us is gone?'.

Annex Theatre Presents A Double-Double of Canada's Best Fringe Festival Acts

Annex Theatre serves up a double-double of piping hot Canadian fringe festival acts with BaronSpieler's The Excursionists: A Matter of Seconds double-billed with Martin Dockery's Wanderlust Sept 23rd-25th and double-billed with Monster Theatre's Freud vs. His Ego Sept 30th-Oct 2nd.

ATC Presents MA RAINEY'S BLACK BOTTOM, 10/16-11/28

It's 1927 and Ma Rainey, the Mother of the Blues, strides into a rundown Chicago recording studio to join a battling quartet of musicians. The great playwright August Wilson places this formidable artist at the center of a captivating drama of flamboyant personalities, professional jealousy, and shattered dreams. Directed by Lou Bellamy, MA RAINEY'S BLACK BOTTOM plays in Tucson at the Temple of Music and Art from October 16 through November 6. It continues its run in Phoenix at the Herberger Theater Center from November 11 through November 28. The Tucson media sponsors for the 2010-2011 season are KGUN9, MIX-FM and Tucson Lifestyle. Rabe, Jennings, Martin et al. Back for MERCHANT on Broadway

Michael Riedel reports in the New York Post this morning that Al Pacino's star power has earned The Merchant of Venice the winners spot for the fall's highest advance generating show. The production, which opens at the Broadhurst Theatre on November 7, 2010, has reportedly taken in approximately $4M, beating out all incoming fall plays and musicals.

Theatreworks Presents THE LIGHT IN THE PIAZZA, Closes 9/19

A sweeping saga of love beneath the Tuscan sun, TheatreWorks, the nationally acclaimed theatre of Silicon Valley presents the epic Tony Award-winning musical THE LIGHT IN THE PIAZZA, with book by Pulitzer Prize-nominee Craig Lucas and music and lyrics by Adam Guettel, based on the 1960 novella by Elizabeth Spencer. Woolly Mammoth Theatre Co Presents IN THE NEXT ROOM OR THE VIBRATOR PLAY, Closes 9/19

Woolly Mammoth Theatre Company kicks off its 31st season with the 2010 Tony-nominee and Pulitzer Prize-finalist, In the Next Room or the vibrator play, written by Sarah Ruhl, directed by DC-favorite Aaron Posner. The show runs August 23 - September 19; Wednesdays - Saturdays at 8pm, Saturdays and Sundays at 3pm.
