Steppenwolf Theatre Company continues its 2009-2010 season, an exploration of the theme of belief, with The Brother/Sister Plays: In the Red and Brown Water, The Brothers Size and Marcus; Or the Secret of Sweet by Tarell Alvin McCraney, directed by ensemble member Tina Landau from January 21 - May 23, 2010 in Steppenwolf's Upstairs Theatre, 1650 N. Halsted St.
PALESTINE, a new play written and performed by Najla Saïd - an actress, writer and daughter of the late Palestinian-American scholar and activist Edward Saïd - will be given its world-premiere Off-Broadway in a production by Twilight Theatre Company in association with New York Theatre Workshop, with previews beginning February 6, 2010 prior to an official press opening February 17 at the 4th Street Theatre (83 East 4th Street between Second Avenue and Bowery) in Manhattan.
La Jolla Playhouse announced today five of six productions in its 2010/11 subscription season, including the world premiere of Annie Weisman's Surf Report, running June/July in the Mandell Weiss Forum; William Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream, directed by Playhouse Artistic Director Christopher Ashley and featuring an on-stage orchestra playing the music of Mendelssohn, running July/Aug in the Sheila and Hughes Potiker Theatre; the world-premiere musical comedy A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder, book by Robert L. Freedman and Steven Lutvak, starring Tony Award-winner Jefferson Mays, running Sept/Oct in the Mandell Weiss Theatre; a new adaptation of Dostoevsky's Notes from Underground, adapted by Robert Woodruff and Bill Camp, directed by Robert Woodruff, running late Sept/Oct in the Sheila and Hughes Potiker Theatre; and Lynn Nottage's Pulitzer Prize-winning play Ruined, running Nov/Dec in the Mandell Weiss Theatre. The final production of the 2010/11 season - a musical - will be announced shortly.
Beloved playwright A.R. Gurney, a Connecticut resident and author of the plays The Cocktail Hour, The Dining Room and Love Letters, returns to Long Wharf Theatre with his hit comedy Sylvia.

Following the extraordinary success of its world premiere of A Christmas Story, The Musical! and Moises Kaufman's direction of Into the Woods, Kansas City Rep continues its season of high-voltage productions with Lookingglass Theatre's presentation of Around the World in 80 Days, Jules Verne's classic novel of adventure and intrigue, written and directed by Laura Eason and staged by Heidi Stillman. The show comes to life at the Rep's Spencer Theatre January 22-February 14.
The Seattle Repertory Theatre is presenting "Speech and Debate", the new play from Stephen Karam. And let me just say that the Rep has not only once again produced a solid hit but continues to produce shows that are entertaining, accessible and memorable across all ages and walks of life.
Marin Theatre Company will produce the world premiere of its 2009 Sky Cooper New American Play Prize winner, Sunlight by Sharr White, January 21 through February 14, 2010. In addition to the Sky Cooper Prize, Sunlight has garnered substantial national recognition. Following MTC's premiere, this searing political thriller will be produced at three other theaters as part of a National New Play Network Rolling World Premiere-Arts West in Seattle, Phoenix Theatre in Indianapolis, and New Jersey Rep.

Alfred Hitchcock's THE 39 STEPS, Broadway's longest running comedy, concluded its Tony Award-winning two year run on January 10, 2010, when it played its final performance at the Helen Hayes Theatre. The production played 771 performances - the longest running Broadway play in seven years.
The Yale Institute for Music Theatre (Mark Brokaw, Artistic Director; Beth Morrison, Producer) will select three original music theatre works to receive two-week workshops in New Haven June 13-27, 2010. Submissions will be accepted November 1, 2009 through January 11, 2010.
