The Kennedy Center today announced casting for the Washington, D.C. engagement of Evita which runs in the Kennedy Center Opera House from September 30 to October 19, 2014. Directed by Tony and Olivier Award-winner Michael Grandage and choreographed by Tony Award-winner Rob Ashford, this is the first new Broadway production of the seven-time Tony Award-winning musical since it debuted on Broadway more than 30 years ago. The press opening night is Thursday, October 2, 2014 at 7:30 p.m.

EVITA began as a rock opera concept album. The success of the album led to the 1978 production on London's West End and the 1979 production on Broadway. With a slew of regional productions, revivals, and tours, EVITA continues to capture the hearts of audiences, and the U.S. National Tour of the 2012 Broadway Revival production is a prime example of why.

Last week, while the U.S. National Tour of the Broadway Revival of EVITA was in San Antonio, I got the chance to chat with Sean MacLaughlin, who is playing Colonel Juan Peron, about the show and his career. Houston audiences will recognize him from last season's production of CAMELOT, produced by Theatre Under the Stars, where he played Lancelot.

Evita, a long-beloved musical from Andrew Lloyd Webber and lyricist Tim Rice, has landed in Durham for the week. The national tour follows a Broadway revival which played to New York audiences in 2012.

This production of EVITA is the most beautiful,... visually stunning. The re-conception of the orchestrations are wonderful. Audiences will really enjoy EVITA.

Evita opened at the Marcus Center for the Performing Arts on Tuesday night. After seeing the production on Broadway last winter (and being thoroughly disappointed), I went into this performance with an open mind, hoping that the performance would be better than in New York. Luckily, this production outshone that of the Broadway one by far.

A new production of Evita just completed a run at Hennepin Theatre Trust's Orpheum in Minneapolis. High flying, adored: Che. Requiem for the Eva we know and loved: changes in the show both enhanced and detracted from the love of Eva Peron.

In this week's episode of 'In Focus', host Eden Lane sits down with two of the stars -- Caroline Bowman (Eva) and Sean MacLaughlin (Peron) -- of the EVITA tour, stopping in Denver this week. She also takes viewers behind the scenes for rehearsal of Parasol Arts new Tango Ballet, El Corazon de Tango - The Heart of Tango. Watch the interviews below!

I am not sure which leg of the national tour that Denver is positioned, but the show just felt tired and devoid of the fiery passion that is the Argentinian spirit.
