The Houston Symphony's 2014-15 Classical and POPS concert series will kick-off in September with an exceptional line up of orchestral repertoire, world-class soloists and comedic fun. Following a laugh-filled weekend of POPS performances with Tony Award-winning actor and Seinfeld star Jason Alexander, the inaugural season of conductor Andres Orozco-Estrada will feature three concerts in a "¡Bienvenido, Andres!" weekend including Opening Night and Gala along with two free performances.
Musical Director and pianist extraordinaire Jon Weber can play every imaginable musical style and for a wide variety of cabaret and concert singers, but this superlative keyboardist is really a jazz man at heart. Weber knows that the intricacies of certain music languages-whether classical or jazz-can be frustratingly elusive, so he's made it his mission to educate the masses, or in this case a few hundred people who after this Tuesday night at 7 pm will have attended one of his four entertaining classroom sessions at the Metropolitan Room, called 'From Joplin to Jarrett: 115 Years of Piano Jazz.' And when some of the students in the audience are among the most accomplished instrumentalists in New York, you realize that your teacher is a virtuoso.
Jon Weber one of the most prominent music directors in New York cabaret performed his one man show at the Metropolitan Room last night. The acclaimed Milwaukee born Jazz pianist and composer lectured and played a program which demonstrated how jazz piano evolved over the last 115 years. From Scott Joplin to Keith Jarrett Mr. Weber recreated the sounds and styles of the various pianists and showed how they influenced piano jazz over the years. Jon is the host of Piano Jazz with Jon Weber on National Public Radio and his recent album titled Simple Complex features his own compositions.

Together, these iconic composers boast 11 Oscars and countless billions of box office dollars. They also hold the ironic position of simultaneously being the most-heard orchestral composers ever (the soundtrack for 'Titanic' sold 30 million copies), yet their music is the least performed.

From One Singular Sensation to The Way We Were, composer Marvin Hamlisch left a legacy of hits that have brightened Broadway and the musical catalogue of America forever. And so, The Philly POPS presented 'Marvin Hamlisch - A Musical Tribute' conducted by Larry Blank, Hamlisch's conductor, and three of his favorite singers: Donna McKechnie, Jodi Benson and Doug LaBrecque. The tribute took place on Friday, March 14-16 in Verizon Hall at The Kimmel Center. Blank and the guest artists not only presented wonderful musical memories with the audience, but they shared personal recollections of Marvin Hamlisch as well. An audience of theatre enthusiasts waited in anticipation at the Mountain View Center for the Performing Arts tonight, when Founding Artistic Director Robert Kelley and Managing Director Phil Santora of TheatreWorks, the nationally acclaimed theatre of Silicon Valley, unveiled the thrilling line-up for its 2014-2015 season. Opening with a groundbreaking World Premiere developed at last season's New Works Festival, the line-up will also give Bay Area audiences their first look at the 2012 Pulitzer Prize-winning drama, the West Coast premiere of the newest work by Rajiv Joseph (The North Pool), a chilling Sondheim revival, a rollicking bluegrass musical, and an elegant Noel Coward confection. Also announced is the company's holiday production, a five-time Tony Award-winning recent Broadway hit.
