Aaron Diehl to Bring Jazz Quartet to Columbus' Southern Theatre, 9/19

NYC's Charlie Parker Jazz Festival Set for 8/21-25; Full Schedule Announced

City Parks Foundation proudly announces the 21st edition of the beloved late summer jazz favorite, the Charlie Parker Jazz Festival. In the world of modern music, few figures loom as large or cast as long a shadow as saxophonist Charlie Parker, best known as "Bird" (short for "Yardbird") to generations of musicians. He was born in 1920, and almost sixty years since his death in 1955, he is universally celebrated for single-handedly inventing bebop and bringing jazz into the modern era.

NY City Center to Celebrate 10th Anniversary of FALL FOR DANCE Festival with Alvin Ailey & Royal Ballet, Begin. 9/16

New York City Center is celebrating the 10th Anniversary of the Fall for Dance Festival with a very special season, beginning with two free evenings of dance at the Delacorte Theater in Central Park, hosted by The Public Theater, on September 16 and 17 (rain date, September 18). The Festival will continue at City Center from September 25 - October 5 with performances by 20 acclaimed dance companies and artists from around the world, including three new works from today's most exciting young choreographers, commissioned by New York City Center in celebration of the tenth anniversary.

Paragon Ragtime Orchestra Premieres Long-Lost Gershwin Piece at Centenary Stage Tonight

Along with the discovery of 5,000 historic theater scores, buried in an attic in Washington, D.C., Founder and Artistic Director of The Paragon Ragtime Orchestra Rick Benjamin was stunned when he came upon George Gershwin's long-lost Broadway score for La La Lucile, which hasn't been performed since 1919. The piece will make its premiere in Hackettstown this month at the Centenary Stage Company's Jammin' in July Summer Concert Series.

Jon Ophoff Wins Ragtime Competition at Greenfield Village's 7th Annual Ragtime Street Fair

Jon Ophoff is the winner of the 2013 piano competition at Greenfield Village's seventh annual Ragtime Street Fair. His winning performance was The Cascades by Scott Joplin. After receiving the award, he was invited back for an encore, when he played Graceful Ghost Rag by William Bolcom. Tea parties on the lawn, Gershwin in the theater, and Joplin on the stage are but a few of the delightful events that take place each year during this unique festival. Ragtime, a style of music with 'ragged' or syncopated rhythm saw its heyday from 1897 to 1918.

Bay Area Cabaret will conclude its 2012-2013 season by honoring the memory and legendary career of composer Marvin Hamlisch. Selections from his work (A Chorus Line, The Way We Were, They're Playing Our Song) will be performed by special guests including Broadway stars Lisa Vroman (The Phantom of the Opera, Sweeney Todd) and Karen Mason (Mamma Mia!, Sunset Boulevard), Grammy Award winner Billy Stritch, 2012 Bay Area Teen Idol winner Bobby Conte Thornton, Academy Award-winning songwriters Alan and Marilyn Bergman, and other guest artists to be announced. Having performed with Bay Area Cabaret for the grand re-opening of the Venetian Room in 2010, Mr. Hamlisch will always hold a special place in Bay Area Cabaret's history. This tribute to his legacy will take place on the late composer's 69th birthday, tonight, June 2, 2013, at 8pm in the historic Venetian Room of the Fairmont San Francisco (950 Mason Street). THE STING Opens at Maverick Theater Tomorrow, 5/31

Directed by Brian Newell, The Sting opens May 31st and runs through July 14th. Performances are 8:00 p.m. Fri. and Sat., 5:00 p.m. Sun, starting June 8 th. Megan Hilty, Matthew Morrison & More to Be Featured in Boston Pops' Spring 2013 Season

The 2013 Boston Pops season, May 8-June 15, under the direction of Keith Lockhart, will present a season-long tribute to the world of movie music, along with programs featuring a wide variety of American musical styles, including jazz, bluegrass, country, gospel, pop, classic standards from the 50s and 60s, and show-stopping songs of Broadway and the American Songbook. For the programs focusing on the season theme, 'Best of Hollywood Film Music,' audiences will hear their favorite music from classic movies and today's popular soundtracks performed live by the Boston Pops, while the accompanying movie clips are projected onto a giant screen suspended above the orchestra. BSO Presents Family Concert Series Program, Musical Roots: From Africa to America Set for 3/2

The Baltimore Symphony Orchestra (BSO) invites families to uncover the African origins of jazz, blues and beyond on Saturday, March 2 at 11 a.m. at the Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall. Musical Roots: From Africa to America, led by Maestro Damon Gupton, will bring new life to jazz, blues and ragtime standards through exciting performances by Baltimore-based beatboxer Shodekeh, pianist Eric Conway, Baltimore City College Choir, tapmaster Karen Callaway Williams and OrchKids. The New York Philharmonic will present One Singular Sensation: Celebrating Marvin Hamlisch, a special New Year's Eve concert saluting the late composer-conductor. The Orchestra will be joined by Marvin Hamlisch's friends and collaborators, including Joshua Bell, Raul Esparza, Michael Feinstein, Maria Friedman, Josh Groban, Megan Hilty, Audra McDonald, Kelli O'Hara, and Frederica von Stade.

Free North Carolina Symphony Concert Honors Beaufort County’s 300th Anniversary Tonight, 9/22

The North Carolina Symphony, under the baton of Resident Conductor William Henry Curry, honors a pair of remarkable milestones late next month, as the orchestra's 80th Anniversary Season includes a concert to commemorate Beaufort County's 300th year. The free performance, held in Festival Park in Washington, N.C., tonight, Sept. 22 at 7:30 p.m., features an energetic concert program inspired by Symphony milestones.
