Through the generosity of Donna MacMillan, the McCallum Theatre presents Keyboard Conversations® with Jeffrey Siegel on Monday, March 25, at 7:00pm. This evening's program, "Rags to Riches" features "Rialto Ripples," "Fascinatin' Rhythms," and "I Got Rhythm" (George Gershwin); "Wall Street Rag" (Scott Joplin); "Invitation to the Dance, Op. 65" (Carol Maria von Weber); "Polka in G Minor" (Bedrich Smetana); "Polka from The Age of Gold" (Dmitri Shostakovich); "Finale of Piano Sonata No. 1" (Alberto Ginastera); "Circus Polka" (Igor Stravinsky); "Evening in Granada" (Claude Debussy); and "Stars and Stripes Forever" (John Philip Sousa).

Listening to ragtime means embracing music with patience and consideration, allowing the melodies to overwhelm you with the emotion of their story. To get a sense of this experience, one only has to see Music Theatre of Denton's production of RAGTIME.

Los Angeles-based company, Heidi Duckler Dance (HDD) is proud to present Ebb & Flow: Culver City 2019. After a successful one day event in 2018, HDD was asked to bring the festival back to the Baldwin Hills Scenic Overlook for two days in 2019! Canadian Brass are the grand masters of the holidays, crisscrossing the globe every December, bringing their hallmark gifts of virtuosity and old-fashioned fun. The WYO Theater invites you to celebrate Scott Joplin on Thursday, November 29 at 7:30pm with Richard Dowling.  Great Scott! features the beloved Scott Joplin ragtime piano works used in the 1973 Academy-Award-winning movie The Sting, including The Entertainer plus many other dazzling, rarely-heard Joplin compositions.  During his short lifetime (ca. 1868-1917) Scott Joplin was hailed as "The King of Ragtime Writers."  

St. Bartholomew's Church, the historic Episcopal parish on Park Avenue in New York City, this fall celebrates the 100th anniversary of the first service in its current location. The magnificent 1918 Romanesque-style church features a portal designed by Stanford White and a grand Byzantine-style interior – and two of New York's unlikely but outstanding concert spaces: the 150-seat chapel, an intimate and acoustically brilliant space that is perfectly suited for contemporary chamber music, and the majestic 1,000-seat sanctuary, whose Aeolian-Skinner pipe organ is the largest in New York City and one of the finest examples of the American Classic Organ in the U.S.

Matt Dorrien, who released his modern classics album In The Key of Grey earlier this year on Portland's Mama Bird Recording Co., went up to Seattle to record a stunning live session at the venerable KEXP studios where he performed “Baby I'm So Lost”, “Underwear Blues”, “All I Wanted To Say” and “United States Of Nothing”. Multi-genre recording artist Damien Sneed, a Sphinx Medal of Excellence recipient, joins the acclaimed staff of the Houston Grand Opera (HGOco) as Music Director and Composer in Residence. As such, Sneed will work on new commission projects, compose a new work for HGOco, and serve as cover conductor for HGO mainstage productions under Patrick Summers, Artistic and Music Director.

With an enthusiasm that is contagious, world-class credentials and an astounding virtuosity, Jeffrey Siegel returns to Stage One with the second concert in his Keyboard Conversations series. During the program entitled CHOPIN IN PARIS, Mr. Siegel asks the question "what music did this patriotic Polish composer write once he settled in Paris?" The answer is an evening of stirring Polonaises, dreamy Nocturnes, the enchanting Mazurkas, the vivacious Tarantelle, and the glorious Barcarolle.

With an enthusiasm that is contagious, world-class credentials and an astounding virtuosity, Jeffrey Siegel returns to Stage One with Keyboard Conversations. Launching his 2018-19 series of engagements (his eighth at the Harris Center) with a commemoration of Rachmaninoff and Debussy, Mr. Siegel will offer comments on these two beloved composers, and then give a virtuosic performance of several piano masterpieces. His August program will include the famous C Sharp Minor Prelude, Clair de lune, and stirring Etudes of both composers; a lively Q&A will follow. 'A musical bridge-builder in action..Siegel showed just how illuminating the combination of words and abstract music can be' (Toronto Star).
