Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra (LACO) showcases the interplay of music and film with 'LACO @ the Movies: An Evening of Disney Silly Symphonies,' a program of dazzling and delightful Academy Award-winning animation created by Walt Disney Studios between 1929 and 1939, with orchestral scores performed live by Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra led by six-time Emmy award-winning composer Mark Watters, on Saturday, June 4, 2016, 7 pm, at the historic Orpheum Theatre movie palace in downtown Los Angeles. Based on timeless fairy tales and fantastical scenarios, the seven classic animated Silly Symphony shorts include five Academy Award-winners, the first Silly Symphony short produced and directed by Walt Disney, the first commercial color short and the first to utilize a multiplane camera to create depth of field. With animation by a number of Disney legends, these films are set against a backdrop of lively music. From symphonic to jazz, and featuring the Orpheum's 1927 Wurlitzer, one of only three remaining original theatre organ installations in theatres in Southern California, the music by such luminaries as Leigh Harline and Carl Stalling is arranged for live orchestra by Watters and Alex Rannie. The magical event for adults and children six and older benefits education and concert programs of Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra, considered one of the world's premier chamber orchestras as well as a pacesetter in presenting wide-ranging repertoire and adventurous commissions. Academy Award-winning actor Dustin Hoffman serves as Honorary Chair. Film tickets and exclusive sponsorship packages, including a post-film cocktail party, are available.

The Broadway composer Cy Coleman is completely underrated. His range of musicals stretch from traditional musical (Little Me) to 60's pop (Sweet Charity) to comic operetta (On The Twentieth Century). His greatest triumph is the hard jazz / film noire musical City of Angels. On Saturday night, the DC area professional premier opened at NextStop Theatre in Herndon, Virginia.

NextStop Theatre Company's third professional season comes to a close in May 2016 with the DC area regional professional premiere of the film noir jazz musical, City of Angels. NextStop's production will open May 12 and run through June 5, 2016.

Barry Kornhauser adapted the book and Michael Koerner wrote the musical score. The production is directed and choreographed by Matt Conner. Scenic and Costume Designer Margie Jervis and Lighting Designer John Sami have created a whimsical visual world for the play inspired by Bemelmans' classic illustrations. Madeline and the Gypsies runs from tonight, December 4 - 27, 2015 at ArtSpace Falls Church, 410 South Maple Avenue. Curtain times are Todays at 7:30 pm, Saturdays at 2:00 pm and 7:30 pm, and Sundays at 2:00 pm with an additional performance on December 27 at 4:30 pm. For the first time in 20 years, every department within Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University will join together for one night of performance on Friday 30 October.

Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra announces that it is a grantee recipient of Bloomberg Philanthropies' Arts Innovation and Management (AIM) program. Through the two-year initiative, Bloomberg Philanthropies is providing $30 million across 262 small and mid-sized nonprofit cultural organizations around the country to help strengthen their operational and programming efforts, including training in fundraising, audience development and board member engagement.

Accomplished arts executive Scott Harrison has been appointed Executive Director of the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra (LACO), announces LACO Board President Dana Newman. Harrison, who assumes his post on October 6, 2015, handles responsibility for providing the vision, strategic direction and oversight of the organization.  Led by Music Director Jeffrey Kahane, LACO is considered one of the world's premier chamber orchestras.  Harrison comes to LACO from the Detroit Symphony Orchestra (DSO) where he served as Vice President for Advancement and External Relations.  Having joined DSO in 2010 as Senior Director of Patron Engagement and Loyalty Programs, he was promoted to Executive Director of Board Engagement and Strategy in 2013 and to the Vice President role in 2014.  Harrison's extensive background with major orchestras also includes work with the symphony orchestras of Indianapolis, New Jersey, Dallas and Boston.  A bassoonist earlier in his career, Harrison performed with the Indianapolis Symphony, Shreveport Symphony and Dallas Wind Symphony, among others, in addition to performing on tour in the United Kingdom, Europe and Latin America.   He has taught bassoon in the US, Haiti, Honduras and the Dominican Republic.
