Son of Semele Ensemble to Present Jason Grote's CIVILIZATION, Begin. 10/11

Award-winning theatre company, Son of Semele Ensemble (SOSE), will present the West Coast premiere of Civilization (all you can eat), by playwright Jason Grote. Directed by SOSE ensemble member Don Boughton and choreographed by Ken Roht, Civilization opens October 11th at the Son of Semele Theater.

Based on the beloved film starring Michael Caine and Robert Duvall, Secondhand Lions springs to musical life in Seattle with a superbly talented cast of Broadway stars and Seattle musical theater actors. Lead by Tony Award nominees Gregg Edelman and Mark Jacoby, this adventure story also features Jason Danieley, Jenny Powers, Kevin Earley, Jared Michael Brown, Kendra Kassebaum, Sophia Anne Caruso, and Justin Huertas. Johnny Rabe, star of Broadway's A Christmas Story, takes center stage as Walter.

The 5th Avenue Theatre has announced complete casting for Hairspray in Concert, featuring some of Seattle's favorite musical theatre stars and the powerful voices of the 250-member Seattle Men's Chorus. Celebrating the 10th anniversary of Hairspray's 2002 Broadway debut, this unique concert event will play for six very special performances of glorious and irreverent John Waters-inspired wackiness (Friday-Sunday, June 20-23). In 2002, Hairspray was The 5th Avenue Theatre's first world premiere musical to head for Broadway where it won the 2003 Tony Award for Best Musical and launched The 5th's unprecedented track record for sending new works to New York. Now the smash hit musical comes home, as audiences have never seen it before.

Martin E. Segal Theatre Center Will Host NEW PLAYS FROM SPAIN Readings, 4/29 & 30

On the occasion of the 2013 PEN World Voices Festival of International Literature, the Martin E. Segal Theatre Center , Spain Culture New York, and Fundacion Autor of the SGAE welcome seven of Spain's most respected Spanish dramatists to the Segal Theatre. Ernesto Caballero, Guillem Clua, Cristina Colmena, Mar Gomez Glez, Borja Ortiz de Gondra, Alfredo Sanzol, and Emilio Williams will preside over readings of their works translated into English, performed by US actors working with US directors under the artistic direction of Julian Mesri (Fuenteovejuna/Repertorio Español) and Segal Center Next Generation Fellow Sarah Rose Leonard. This two-day program of readings (April 29th & 30th), which builds on the Segal Center's past exchanges with countries like Japan and South Korea, will offer insight into the evolution of Spanish identity and culture within the context of the country's current situation.

BWW Reviews: TRAILS at Village �" A Slow Starter But Worth the Hike

A new musical about two old friends hiking the Appalachian Trail doesn't sound like a dead lock winner does it? I mean, how much can we sing about hiking? And while it does take a bit to really hook into you and at times isn't so sure of its footing, the new musical 'Trails' currently playing at Village Theatre manages to walk off with your heart through some very fine performances.
