Adventure Stage Chicago (ASC) has announced the world premiere of Worthy, tonight, April 17 -May 16, created by Dani Bryant and directed by Sarah Rose Graber at Vittum Theater, 1012 N. Noble St. Preview performances are Today, April 17 and 24 and Saturday, April 18. Opening night is Saturday, April 25 at 4p.m. Performances are Todays at 7:30 p.m. and Saturdays at 4 p.m. (There is no performance Saturday, May 9. Student matinees available select weekdays.) The online world of social media began long before the internet exploded with email services and today's outlandish graphics and photo capabilities. Local BBS online systems allowed its members to log on, visit various chat rooms on lots of topics and create a world unto themselves by just typing away and watching plain text conversations fly by at rapid speed. No graphics - no photos - just words from however many users were in that particular chat room. It was a heady time when anyone could pretend to be whoever they wanted to be and create worlds where each of us could be a star - or the controller of everyone and everything going on in that imaginary room. Hollywood icons Matt Damon and Ben Affleck have been the butt of many jokes ever since they burst on the scene after winning the Oscar for writing "Good Will Hunting". And one of the high points of that adoring mockery had to be when Mindy Kaling and Brenda Withers took it upon themselves to portray their version of the boys' origin story in their hilarious send up "Matt & Ben". And STAGEright's current production also shows respect for the duo even as it pokes fun at them.

The Performance Project @ University Settlement will present the World Premiere of TALA, a multicultural play about the immigrant experience written and directed by Kyoung H. Park. Produced by Kyoung's Pacific Beat, previews began January 8 at University Settlement with opening set for January 10. The show runs through January 23, 2015.
This exciting new staging will star the radiant Laura Griffith as Julie and 5th Avenue favorite Brandon O'Neill as Billy in his first Seattle production following his Broadway debut in Disney's Aladdin. Oh my! It's been a hell of a year for the Seattle Theatre scene and I can say we've been quite fortunate to see the incredible shows we have. So many amazing shows in fact that picking just a few stand outs (let alone a "best") is a near impossibility. But I have searched the deep dark recesses of my memory to find the shows and performances that really stood out and stuck with me beyond the evening and throughout the year. And so, without further ado, I'm thrilled to present the BWW 2014 Seattle Critic's Choice Awards (or Jay's Picks). Let the awesomeness flow!
