HB Studio To Partner With American Soundboard To Present Readings Of U.S. Congressional Hearings

This coming season, AMERICAN SCOREBOARD, a series of actor-performed, verbatim readings of actual U.S. Congressional hearing transcripts, will once again join forces with HB STUDIO to perform four readings featuring HB students and alumni.  The series will kick-off on Monday, September 16 at 7pm at the HB Playwrights Theatre (124 Bank Street) with a performance of testimony given on March 6, 2019 before the U.S. House Judiciary Committee on Protecting Dreamers and TPS (Temporary Protected Status) recipients.   Admission to the reading is free and reservations can be made at hbstudio.eventbrite.com.

Andrew Combs Shares New Single 'Born Without A Clue'

Andrew Combs is set to release his new album, Ideal Man, on September 20th via New West Records. The 11-song set was produced by Sam Cohen (Kevin Morby, Benjamin Booker). Captured live in Cohen's Brooklyn studio, Ideal Man also features Combs' long-time collaborators, drummer Dom Billet and guitarist/keyboardist/bassist Jerry Bernhardt.

Premiere Stages To Present New Jersey Premiere Of Rohina Malik's Yasmina's NECKLACE

Premiere Stages will present the New Jersey premiere of Rohina Malik's Joseph Jefferson Award-nominated play Yasmina's Necklace at Kean University in Union September 5-22. Previously presented at the 16th Street Theater and Goodman Theatre in Chicago, Yasmina's Necklace tells the story of Abdul Samee. Abdul's father is Iraqi and mother is Puerto Rican - but if you ask him, he'll say he's Italian.

THE SECRET GARDEN Set to Open at Murfreesboro's Center for the Arts August 23

Bard On The Beach Presents CORIOLANUS

Bard on the Beach Shakespeare Festival is set to round out its 30th Anniversary Season in Vanier Park, with the staging of Coriolanus on the Howard Family Stage in the Douglas Campbell Theatre. Directed by Dean Paul Gibson (The Winter's Tale, 2017 and A Midsummer Night's Dream, 2014), Coriolanus is making its first appearance at Bard in the Festival's 30-year history.

FEFU AND HER FRIENDS, a surreal dramedy by Maria Irene Fornés, known as an early feminist giant of the avant-garde, challenges modern audiences in that the play is plotless except for the fact eight women with very different agendas, personalities, and sexual orientations have gathered in the country home of their eccentric friend, Fefu, to plan an event for their do-gooding educational work. As multiple conflicts unfold between the old friends, they struggle to define who they are and what it means to be a woman in a male-dominated world.

Branch Nebula's mind-bending one-man show High Performance Packing Tape  will take The Studio by storm from 18-22 September as part of the UnWrapped September series. The season follows a critically acclaimed, sold-out premiere at Liveworks 2018 and comes to the Sydney Opera House after an international premiere at HomoNovus Festival in Riga in September, and will also tour to Melbourne Festival in October.

Festival of Cinema NYC Announces 2019 Award Winners

Festival of Cinema NYC is proud to announce the winners of its 3nd annual event that took place from August 2-11 at Regal Cinema's UA Midway in Forest Hills, Queens Public Library at Forest Hills and Queens Museum in nearby Flushing Meadows Corona Park. From a pool of nearly 450 film submissions, the festival presented 125 remarkable films from 25 countries. Winners for each competitive category were chosen by the festival's specially selected jury, and received a unique statuette at the Awards Gala on Sunday, Aug. 11 during a dinner ceremony that took place at Queens Brewery in Ridgewood, Queens. Prizes for selected categories include full software from Final Draft, Jungle Software and Showbiz Media Budget & Scheduling Software. Winners of Audience Choice award are offered an opt-in distribution deal from IndiePix Films.
