The Sarasota Opera House, in conjunction with the Florida Holocaust Museum and the Tampa Jewish Community Centers & Federation, will present a reading of The Soap Myth, starring Ed Asner and Tovah Feldshuh on Tuesday, April 16th at 7:00pm. Originally presented off-Broadway in 2012, The Soap Myth, written by Jeff Cohen and directed by Pam Berlin, is set more than 50 years after the end of World War II, and dramatizes the warm friendship that develops between a young Jewish journalist and a cantankerous Holocaust Survivor on a crusade about including "soap" in Holocaust museums - Did the Nazis make soap from the corpses of murdered Jews? Along the way the play grapples with the pernicious evil of antisemitism masquerading as Holocaust denial. The Soap Myth asks provocative questions like "Who has the right to write history?" and "How does a survivor survive surviving?"
On Monday, April 22, 2019 at 7 pm, ALL ARTS, a new 24/7 arts and culture broadcast channel and streaming platform from WNET, will film a special performance of Jeff Cohen's The Soap Myth.
Beginning Monday, April 15, 2019 and continuing through Tuesday, May 7, seven-time Emmy Award and five-time Golden Globe Award winner Ed Asner will star as Holocaust survivor Milton Saltzman in a national tour of concert readings of Jeff Cohen's play The Soap Myth. The tour includes stops in Tampa, FL; Sarasota, FL; Wilmington, DE; Hartford, CT; Milwaukee, WI; Carmel, IN; St. Louis, MO; Cleveland, OH; Columbus, OH; and Pittsburgh, PA. The readings are directed by Pam Berlin.

The 18th annual Tribeca Film Festival, presented by AT&T, today announced its 2019 lineup of 63 diverse and engaging short films in competition, including 31 world premieres. This year's shorts program includes a cross-section of international and U.S. filmmakers, curated from a record 5131 submissions with female filmmakers directing 45% of the selections. The short films will be presented in 11 distinct competition programs, consisting of six narrative, four documentary, and one animation program. There will also be special screening programs for the annual Tribeca/ESPN Sports Film Festival and the debut of shorts from The Queen Collective, a program aimed at accelerating gender and racial equality behind the camera. The 2019 shorts lineup is programmed by Sharon Badal and Ben Thompson. The 2019 Tribeca Film Festival takes place April 24 - May 5.

The fellowship includes a $15,000 grant, a residency at the Pillow Lab, and a residency at LIU Tilles Center. The newly established Fellowship represents a shared vision between the two organizations to broaden resources that allow artists to thrive and bring new work to stages in Massachusetts, New York, and beyond.

Music Director Thierry Fischer and President & CEO Paul Meecham today announced the Utah Symphony's 2019-20 season, with highlights including multimedia concert experiences featuring the twelve movements of Messiaen's Des canyons aux toiles (From the canyons to the stars), the release of Berlioz and Prokofiev recordings on the Hyperion Records and Reference Recordings respectively, and a celebration of Beethoven's 250th birthday in 2020. Additional highlights include the return of American composer Andrew Norman to present three of his orchestral works and work with young Utah musicians in his second year as Composer-in-Association; a gala concert with violinist Joshua Bell celebrating the 80th anniversary of the Utah Symphony's first-ever performance, which took place on May 8, 1940; and a tribute to Hispanic Heritage that includes music by Latin-American composers conducted by guest artist Carlos Miguel Prieto. Following the release of their 7” single 'Runnin', Ohtis today announce the release of their debut album Curve of Earth on 29 March via Full Time Hobby (home to White Denim, Timber Timbre, Michael Nau, Katie Von Schliecher etc). To herald the announce, Ohtis release the album track “Rehab.” The band's Sam Swinson notes, “Rehab was a fox hole prayer, a lot of the songs on the record were. I grew up in an American Christian church that believes in a Santa Claus God, always saying please do this or that, please give us this or that. So naturally when I was hating myself for being a hopeless junkie f**k up I went begging him to make me good. When I did it was usually slightly tongue in cheek, because I hadn't believed in Santa Claus for a long time and I had been listening to the Louvin Brothers a lot so I understood the value of Old Testament irony. I wrote it at my friend Jimmy's house in South Carolina. He'd bought me a bus ticket to come from Stone Mountain Georgia where I'd spent a few days sleeping under a bridge, begging people at Subway for change to get drunk on Steel Reserve. I was stranded there after being kicked out of a type of Christian work camp called Teen Challenge which operates under the guise of being a treatment center. They had me digging graves at a grave yard 12 hours a day everyday except Sundays, which was reserved for letting the lord do his work on us. I ended up drunk driving Jimmy's truck into a ditch and he sent me on my merry way. Needless to say I was feeling very bad about myself which produced this emo country song.”

But if the villain is cunningly conniving, you boo and hiss. The first act is a melodramatic featured presentation while the second half is a musical revue. Filled with inside jokes only a true Wichitan would understand, Will Santa Drink Canada Dry? Or Go Tell it to the Mountie caps off the theatre company's year in true Christmas-comedic fashion.
