Rivendell Theatre Ensemble's (RTE) Artistic Director Tara Mallen is proud to announce Rivendell Theatre Ensemble's 18th season. Chicago's only producing company dedicated to women's voices features three original American plays during their 2013-14 season named 'Stirring the Pot.' Rivendell chose three provocative, contemporary stories that 'stir the pot' and unflinchingly expose challenging issues and instigate vital dialogues on some of the relevant issues facing women today: women in the military, racial tensions at work and negative body image in women. The season begins with Women at War, Thursday, Nov. 21. This Public Workshop Performance at UIC School of Theatre & Music, 1040 W. Harrison Ave., has been developed as part of Rivendell's annual Fresh Produce new play development series and is directed by RTE ensemble member Megan Carney with producing partner 'VetCAT'. The season continues with Rasheeda Speaking by Chicago's critically acclaimed Joel Drake Johnson, directed by Sandy Shinner, January 18 - February 16, 2014, and concludes with the Midwest premiere of Eat Your Heart Out by Courtney Baron, directed by Hallie Gordon, artistic director of Steppenwolf Young Adults Program, May 31 - June 28, 2014. Shattered Globe Theatre is pleased to announce the appointment of Sandy Shinner as its new, full-time Producing Artistic Director. Shinner, who served more than 25 years as Associate Artistic Director at Chicago's Tony Award-winning Victory Gardens Theater, steps into the newly-created post following work as a project consultant for Shattered Globe under a grant from the Field Foundation. Shinner, who has directed over 100 productions in her career at theaters including Actors Theatre of Louisville's Humana Festival and Steppenwolf's First Look Rep, created and produced the nationally known IGNITION! Festival at Victory Gardens and was co-director of the award-winning Access Project. Roger Smart, who has served as Shattered Globe's Artistic Director since 2010, leaves his position to teach at West Virginia University. Smart, one of Shattered Globe's original members, will remain in the company's Ensemble.
