Two local productions have officially opened another busy year for Philippine Theater: One is that of 4th Wall Theater Company's Cultural Center of the Philippines transfer of its original musical, 'Rivalry'; the other is Rep's staging of the 2003 London revival version of Frederick Knott's 1966 classic thriller, 'Wait Until Dark,' which was originally set in Greenwich Village, New York. Veteran theater actor Jamie Wilson, who was originally assigned the role of antagonist Harry Roat, Jr., was badly injured in last week's rehearsal. Fellow Repertory Philippines' (Rep) actor Arnel Carrion, who was rehearsing for the role of Sam Henderson, the husband of the lead protagonist, Susy, has just been announced as the replacement for the injured actor, who is unlikely to return to the show.

Classic thriller 'Wait Until Dark,' which premiered on Broadway in 1966, will open Repertory Philippines' (Rep) 2014 theater season starting Friday, January 17 at Onstage Theatre, Greenbelt 1 in Makati City. 'Wait Until Dark' is one of the few plays penned by English playwright-screenwriter Frederick Knott, best known for his 1952 television play, 'Dial M for Murder.'

Now in the midst of a record-breaking year, Lantern Theater Company announces the productions scheduled for its 2012/13 season. The Lantern opens its 19th season with a remount of David Ives' New Jerusalem, The Interrogation of Baruch de Spinoza at Talmud Torah Congregation: Amsterdam, July 27, 1656, the best-selling play in the company's history and featuring the original cast and creative team from the original 2011 production. This limited return engagement is followed by the Philadelphia premiere of The Liar, also by Ives, a sophisticated comedy of lies and love adapted from the French play by Pierre Corneille. Mid-season, the Lantern completes Martin McDonagh's Leenane Trilogy (A Skull in Connemara, The Lonesome West) with the darkly comic The Beauty Queen of Leenane. Lantern Associate Artistic Director Kathryn MacMillan will direct both The Liar and The Beauty Queen of Leenane. In the spring, Lantern Artistic Director Charles McMahon directs Henry V, William Shakespeare's epic journey through royal courts and battlefields. The season concludes with Heroes, a playful, bawdy, and heartbreakingly funny comedy by Tom Stoppard, adapted from Gerald Sibleyras' Le Vent De Peupliers and directed by Lantern affiliated artist M. Craig Getting.

This revival will include the original cast and creative team of the critically acclaimed production that opened the Lantern's 2011/12 season.
