I get to choose a different phrase on stage as Sally Brown in The York Theatre's production of You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown. Sally, like me, is a carefree, spirited girl who doesn't care what anyone thinks. She won't let anyone tell her how she should feel. Sally is confident and loves who she is. Sally is a sassy, pushy yet altogether lovable character and I am so excited to bring her to life this summer.

Onstage through Saturday night at Lipscomb University's Collins Auditorium, You're A Good Man, Charlie Brown, represents a musical theater genre that has fallen out of favor in the 21st Century: its very innocence and perceived lack of guile guarantee that it will ultimately become the stuff of community theater, academic theater and their ilk. After watching the show play out on stage - even when it's directed by Kari Smith with gleeful exuberance - you can't help but wonder how it ever played Broadway (Twice, even!), even after a rather successful mid-1960s off-Broadway stand.
Charles Schulz's beloved comic comes to life in Clark Gesner's classic musical, You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown. The whole gang is here: bossy Lucy is hopelessly in love with piano prodigy Schroeder who doesn't give her the time of day, perfectionist Sally is still mocking blanket-toting Linus, Snoopy is in the doghouse, and 'blockhead,' himself, Charlie Brown, is in rare form. Brief vignettes span the months from Valentine's Day to Beethoven Day, from wild optimism to utter despair. In this revised version, with additional music and lyrics by Andrew Lippa, the sweet, joyful innocence of the Peanuts gang is maintained, but a fresh insouciance and playfulness is revealed. Though considered a 'good man' by his friends, Charlie Brown can't seem to win the heart of the Little Red-Haired Girl, nor his friend Lucy, her crush, the piano-playing Schroeder. Meanwhile Snoopy and Linus daydream and the rest of the friends battle with kites, school, baseball and misunderstandings before finally coming to realize what makes them truly happy.
Whether belting out musical hits, showcasing her classically trained coloratura soprano, or taking on songs with a country sort of flair, the versatile performer had the audience in the palm of her hands and for good reason.
?PEE STICK is a one-woman comedy written and performed by Carly Milroy (LEGENDS, POST-POST), kicking off at The Butterfly Club on Wednesday 17 February for five nights only.
Although other vocals and one or two instances of odd timing could use work, the Merced production stays true to the heart of "Charlie Brown." After all, "Happiness" is so often found in live theatre.
It's the biggest and best show staged yet at St. Vincent's summer repertory company, and a fine cast brings music and heart to the unlikeliest of Disney musicals
