Merrie England plays at the Finborough Theatre for a limited run of nine Sunday and Monday evening performances and Tuesday matinees, opening tonight, 27 May 2012.

Trinity Repertory Company previously announced that Rhode Island's own Academy Award-nominated actress, Viola Davis, would be honored with the 2012 Pell Award for Lifetime Achievement in the Arts at the 16th annual Pell Awards. Theater educator Elaine Foster Perry will receive the Charles Sullivan Award for Distinguished Service in the Arts, Brown University President Ruth J. Simmons will receive the Pell Award For Leadership in Arts Education, and J.L. "Lynn" Singleton, President of the Providence Performing Arts Center and Professional Facilities Management, will be honored as the recipient of the Pell Award for Outstanding Leadership in the Arts. All awardees are past or current Rhode Islanders.

Cover art has been released for Scott Alan's newest CD, which was recorded live in April at Birdland. The two-disc recording, which is simply titled 'Live,' will be released physically and digitally June 26 via iTunes, CDbaby, Amazon, Dress Circle and everywhere digital music is available.

The full, star-filled track list been announced for composer-lyricist Scott Alan's fourth recording, 'Live,' which follows his critically acclaimed 'What I Wanna Be When I Grow Up,' 'Dreaming Wide Awake' and 'Keys.' La Jolla Playhouse has announced the cast and creative team for its upcoming production of Blood and Gifts, by J.T. Rogers, directed by Lucie Tiberghien, running in the Mandell Weiss Forum June 12 - July 8.

The Kioi Sinfonietta Tokyo, one of Japan's foremost chamber orchestras, will make its New York debut tonight, May 2 at 7:30 pm at Alice Tully Hall. Conductor Thierry Fischer will lead the orchestra in popular works by Mozart and Beethoven, including Mozart's Overture from Le Nozze di Figaro, Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 22 with pianist Yu Kosuge, and Beethoven's Symphony No. 3 in E-flat major "Eroica."

On Saturday, March 31st, 32 metro area high schools acts continued their journey toward college scholarships, special awards, prizes and performance opportunities throughout the city by competing in the St. Louis Teen Talent Showcase Competition Semi-finals. Performing arts professionals judged the groups and narrowed the acts to 11 who will move on to the finals tonight, April 27th at 8pm at The Fabulous Fox Theatre (list of acts attached and can be found on our website). The final competition is a Broadway style show and is FREE and open to the public. Tickets are required and available now at no charge at The Fox box office and through Metrotix.

People reports that Betty White will make a guest star appearance in the season finale of Lifetime's THE CLIENT LIST.

The BMI-Lehman Engel Musical Theatre Workshop announces its Spring Smoker, a semi-annual showcase for new songs from Workshop writers. Downtown theater adventurers the New York Neo-Futurists present the world premiere the Nerdcore musical, YOU ARE IN AN OPEN FIELD, with book and lyrics by Kevin R. Free, Eevin Hartsough, Marta Rainer, and Adam Smith, music composed by Carl Riehl, and directed by Christopher Dippel. YOU ARE IN AN OPEN FIELD begins performances tonight, April 26 for a limited engagement through Saturday, May 19.
