BWW Review: GODSPELL is goose-bumps-on-your-arms invigorating and filled with excellent performances in a provocative setting.

A.D. Players, one of Houston's oldest and largest resident theater companies, presents 'Godspell,' its final mainstage show for the 2017 season. Based on the New Testament Gospel of Matthew, this re-imagined, updated version of Stephen Schwartz's Broadway classic takes place in an untraditional setting, and includes the show's parade of beloved musical classics, including 'Day by Day,' 'Learn Your Lessons Well,' 'All for the Best,' 'All Good Gifts,' 'By My Side' and 'Beautiful City.' Rattlestick Playwrights Theater has announced its complete 2017/18 which will kick off with Diana Oh's {my lingerie play} 2017: Installation #9: THE CONCERT AND CALL TO ARMS!!!!!!!!! this September, presented in association with Rosalind Productions, Inc., music by Diana Oh, co-directed by Stephanie Ryan Johnstone and Oh, with music direction by Ryan McCurdy. The mainstage season will continue in January 2018 with Dael Orlandersmith's UNTIL THE FLOOD and Mashuq Mushtaq Deen's DRAW THE CIRCLE will be presented in repertory.

The Caduceus Theater Arts Company presents its first show, 'Don't Dress For Dinner,' a two-act comedy by French playwright Marc Camoletti, adapted by Robin Hawdon. Similar to Camoletti's 'Boeing-Boeing,' this play contains secret lovers, mistresses, and mistaken identities.

Directed by Kim Tobin-Lehl and Jennifer Dean, LOBBY HERO is realistic and gritty with characters that are built from deep within.

4th Wall Theatre Company will open the Houston premiere of LOBBY HERO on May 12, playing through June 3. I spoke with one of the show's co-directors, Kim Tobin-Lehl, the other day, and gained perspective about the thought behind bringing LOBBY HERO to the 4th Wall stage and what it took to develop this production.

THE HONKY TONK ANGELS HOLIDAY SPECTACULAR, the sequel to Ted Swindley's hit musical, THE HONKY TONK ANGELS, takes the stage at Stages Repertory Theatre this holiday season. The Angels perform a holiday reunion concert in Nashville, and a new member must step in to replace Angela until she returns. The show runs through December 31, 2016, closing with a special New Year's Eve performance.

Alisha Spielmann (Universal Robots) and Ryan McCurdy (Verona Walls) will lead the first public reading of Ellie Pyle's timely new play SOURCES, which takes place the night after the 2016 election, at Manhattan Theatre Club Studios on Sunday, November 13, at 7pm, under the direction of DeLisa White.

Stages Repertory Theatre has announced the release of the Original Cast Album of The Marvelous Wonderettes: Dream On, featuring the original Houston cast.

THE MARVELOUS WONDERETTES: DREAM ON, written and created by Roger Bean has extended its World Premiere, running now through October 16, 2016 at Stages Repertory Theatre in Houston, TX, directed and choreographed by Melissa Rain Anderson, with musical direction by Kevin David Thomas.

After a sold-out extended run in 2015, Stages Repertory Theatre is bringing the hit production of The Honky Tonk Angels to Miller Outdoor Theatre for two nights only. Previous cast members Chelsea Ryan McCurdy, Kelley Peters and Holland Vavra all return with the show, led by Stages' Artistic Associate Mitchell Greco.

You can feel the standing ovation building the second they start working their way through 30 hit songs that the audience sings along with gleefully. I saw the production the second weekend, and already audience members were proclaiming to others 'This is my THIRD time!'
