The Art Students League of NY will be hosting their first Dare2Draw, today, January 29th, at the Phyllis Harriman Mason Gallery.

Elements Theatre Company of Orleans, Mass., a professional, non-profit, resident theater company whose core mission is to educate and illuminate through the arts, brings its 2015 touring program to New York City January 25 through February 11. The company will present Shakespeare's The Merchant of Venice in six performances at various venues throughout the city and lead related workshops, talk-backs and panel discussions on our culture's view of "The Other."

The Jewish Museum presents the next event in its popular series of after-hours events, The Wind Up. Featuring art, live music, activities, and an open bar, The Wind Up will take place on Wednesday, February 18, from 8pm to 11pm and celebrate Helena Rubinstein: Beauty Is Power, the first exhibition to explore the ideas, innovations, and influence of the legendary cosmetics entrepreneur Helena Rubinstein. The evening features a performance by Brooklyn-based garage pop band Beverly, who released their debut album Careers in 2014 to wide acclaim. Fronted by the female vocalist and guitarist Drew Citron, Beverly embodies the 'beauty is power' mantra espoused by Rubinstein as they combine dreamy vocal harmonies with a powerful barrage of guitars and post-punk sound. Rubinstein's iconic style will be celebrated through numerous art activities including: statement jewelry making, nail art inspired by Rubinstein's packaging and advertising, and a photo booth for capturing one-of-a-kind portraits.

Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts welcomes the Lunar New Year - The Year Of The Sheep - with an immersive and festive welcome with Pre-Concert Cocktails, a Benefit Concert and Imperial Dinner and Chinese Feast. This black-tie extravaganza on Saturday, January 31 will take place in the Bram Goldsmith Theater, the Jim and Eleanor Randall Grand Hall and the Promenade Terrace. The Honorary Chair is Wallis Annenberg; the co-chairs are Linda May and John Bendheim.

David Weinstone and The Music for Aardvarks Band will perform two concerts for kids at The Jewish Museum on Sunday, February 8 at 11:30 am and 2:00 pm. Families will hear favorite songs celebrating being a kid in New York City such as City Kid, Taxi, Jack Hammer Joe and Modern Art. David Weinstone, founder of Music for Aardvarks, explains, 'our shows are rockin', and we try to have as much audience participation as possible. We've even had kids come up on stage with us to sing or dance.'

Grammy-Award winning soprano Jessye Normanreturns to Carnegie Hall on Saturday, February 14 at 8:00 p.m. with pianist Mark Markham for a special Valentine's Day program entitled Hooray for Love! The concert features classics from musical theater and the Great American Songbook including selections by Harold Arlen, Leonard Bernstein, George Gershwin, Jerome Kern, Rodgers and Hart, and Duke Ellington, plus songs by Satie, Weill, Poulenc, Bizet, and others. This performance marks Miss Norman's first solo recital in Carnegie Hall's Stern Auditorium / Perelman Stage since May 2008.

New York, NY - Bang on a Can: Beauty Is Power, a concert featuring 'cello goddess' (The New Yorker) Maya Beiser, will take place at the Jewish Museum on Thursday, January 29 at 7:30pm. Tied to the Museum's exhibition, Helena Rubinstein: Beauty Is Power, the first exhibition about the legendary cosmetics entrepreneur and trendsetting art collector Helena Rubinstein, the performance will highlight powerful women composers. This program is the third concert of the Jewish Museum and Bang on a Can's partnership to produce a series of dynamic musical performances at the Museum from June 2014 to May 2015, inspired by the Jewish Museum's diverse slate of exhibitions.

Dr Nicholas Cullinan, Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, and co-curator of last year's hugely successful Henri Matisse: The Cut-Outs exhibition at Tate Modern, has been appointed Director of the National Portrait Gallery, London, it was announced today, Tuesday 6 January 2015.

Grammy-winning musician and composer Danny Weinkauf (bassist for They Might Be Giants) and his Red Pants Band will perform a concert for families at the Jewish Museum on Sunday, January 25 at 2 pm. The band will play songs from their popular album, No School Today, including “Archaeology” and “The Moon is Made of Cheese,” as well They Might Be Giants favorites like “Where Do They Make Balloons?” and “I Am a Paleontologist.” No School Today won a 2014 Parents' Choice Award.

The new Broadway revival of On The Town was recorded in November 2014 for a two-disc cast album to be released by PS Classics. After announcing a previous date for January 20, the label's website now lists a March 3 release.

The Library of Congress is celebrating Billy Joel's 50-year career and his selection as the 2014 recipient of the Library of Congress Gershwin Prize for Popular Song in the nation's capital with a series of events, culminating in a star-studded concert tonight.
