THE SPIRITUALIST, THE FOOTBALL PROJECT & More Set for Arkansas New Play Festival 2012

TheatreSquared today announced the lineup for the 2012 Arkansas New Play Festival, the theatre's fourth annual celebration of new works for the stage. The festival will feature staged reading performances of four professional plays, a showcase of ten-minute plays by Arkansas high school students, and Northwest Arkansas's sixth annual 24-Hour Play-Off. In partnership with the Arkansas Repertory Theatre, T2's lineup of new works will also be presented at Oxford American Magazine's new venue in Little Rock (1300 Main Street, May 17-18). The lineup of events in Northwest Arkansas will take place at Walton Arts Center's Nadine Baum Studios (505 W. Spring St., Fayetteville). Each new play reading will be followed by a conversation with the playwright, director and cast.

Teresa Wakim Makes Handel and Haydn Society Solo Debut in Mozart Coronation Tonight

Soprano Teresa Wakim makes her Handel and Haydn Society (H&H) Symphony Hall debut as a featured soloist with Mozart Coronation, H&H's final program of the 2011-2012 Season. Wakim, a member of the H&H professional chorus since 2003, will be stepping in to replace scheduled guest Rosemary Joshua, who has withdrawn from her appearance due to personal reasons. Performing with Wakim is tenor Thomas Cooley, who returns to H&H in Mozart Coronation after most recently performing in Mozart Mass in C Minor in 2010; he can be heard on H&H's recording of the work, released on CORO. Soloists also include mezzo-soprano Paula Murrihy and Boston-based baritone Sumner Thompson, who both return toH&H after having performed as members of the H&H Chorus as well as guest soloists. Murrihy most recently appeared in Handel's Messiah in 2008, and Thompson was heard last season in The Bach Experience.

Stephanie Rothenberg, Edward Watts to Lead Guthrie Theatre's ROMAN HOLIDAY Musical; Opens 6/9

The Guthrie Theater today announced complete casting for the sparkling new musical Roman Holiday. This song-filled delight-based on the iconic 1953 Paramount Pictures film starring Audrey Hepburn and Gregory Peck-includes timeless music and lyrics by Cole Porter and a book by Paul Blake. The production will play from June 9 - August 19 on the McGuire Proscenium Stage and features soul-stirring Porter standards like "Easy to Love," "Just One of Those Things" and "Ev'ry Time We Say Goodbye." Guthrie Associate Artistic Director John Miller-Stephany (1776, God of Carnage and A Streetcar Named Desire) will direct.

Hampton Theatre to Present BLACK TIE 5/24-6/10 - New Play by A.R. Gurney

A comedic clash of cultures and generations threatens to unravel what seems at first blush to be a traditional WASP wedding when the Hampton Theatre Company opens A.R. Gurney's new play, 'Black Tie,' on May 24. 'Black Tie' will be performed at the Quogue Community Hall Thursdays through Sundays for three weeks, from May 24 through June 10.

Passage Theatre Company Opens SLIPPERY AS SIN, 5/17

Passage Theatre Company, Trenton's only professional theater company, will wrap up its 2011-2012 season with Slippery as Sin, running from May 17 to June 3. David Lee White's comic thriller will be directed by Adam Immerwahr - the same team that delivered the 2010 smash hit, Blood: A Comedy.
