Dark & Stormy Productions previously announced the four actors, director, and three bands for the Actors' Equity Showcase, Outside Providence: Three One-Act Plays by Edward Allan Baker, made possible by Dark & Stormy as the company's inaugural production.
On Sunday, September 9th, 2012, David Youse, FOUR THINGS PRODUCTIONS in association with L.A. WORKS will present an unprecedented staged reading of the critically-acclaimed play, "Steel Magnolias" at The Broad Stage in Santa Monica. In partnership with playwright Robert Harling, FOUR THINGS PRODUCTIONS is honored to celebrate the 25th Anniversary of this remarkable story written for Harling's sister whom he lost through complications of diabetes. This very special performance will be directed by two-time Tony Award winner Judith Ivey and will feature multiple Emmy nominee and Golden Globe-winning actress Frances Conroy, Golden Globe and Emmy-nominee Elizabeth Perkins, Jennifer Coolidge and Golden Globe and Emmy nominee Annie Potts, along with additional cast members to be announced shortly. Conroy is replacing the previously-announced Kathy Bates in the role of Ouiser due to a scheduling conflict.
The Carnegie Visual and Performing Arts Center (The Carnegie) begins its 2012-13 Theatre Series with the funny and feel-good roller skating Broadway musical XANADU. Based (often satirically) on the 1980 Olivia Newton-John and Gene Kelly film of the same title, XANADU features pop hits including "Evil Woman," "I'm Alive" and "Magic." The production receives its local professional premiere in The Carnegie's Otto M. Budig Theatre weekends August 11 - 26, 2012, under the direction of lauded former Cincinnatian Alan Patrick Kenny. Bovim Ballet is back on stage in Cape Town with a return reason of QUEEN AT THE BALLET. One of the project-based company's flagship productions, this 'rock ballet' was first seen in 2004. A tribute to Freddie Mercury, the show delves into the life of the enigmatic frontman of Queen, using the timeless songs that Mercury introduced during his career at a springboard.
TheatreWorks, the nationally acclaimed theatre of Silicon Valley, presents the regional premiere of the recent Broadway hit TIME STANDS STILL by Pulitzer Prize-winner Donald Margulies (Dinner with Friends, Brooklyn Boy). The play will be helmed by Leslie Martinson and stars Rebecca Dines and Mark Anderson Phillips in the pivotal roles of the photojournalist and war correspondent, with Rolf Saxon and Sarah Moser completing the cast.
