Playwright Jake Brunger and composer Pippa Cleary have been creating musicals together since they met at Bristol University in 2008. Their work includes Jet Set Go!, The Great British Soap Opera and an adaptation of Sue Townsend's beloved The Secret Diary of Adrian Mole Aged 13 . The latter begins a London run at the Menier Chocolate Factory this week.
Tuba player Jason Tanksley, currently pursuing an Artist Diploma from the Cleveland Institute of Music (CIM), has won a two-year fellowship with the Minnesota Orchestra. Tanksley is one of two performers selected as the first-ever Rosemary and David Good Fellows. This fellowship supports the career development of outstanding young musicians of African American, Latino and Native American descent as they embark on professional orchestral careers, and will provide Tanksley with mentorship, coaching and professional performing experience. Tanksley was one of eight musicians chosen to audition for the fellowship.

I had the honor of seeing the original Broadway cast of the Tony winning musical Ragtime as my very first Broadway show. So, as you can guess, I am absolutely thrilled to see that the BroadHollow Theatre Company has added it to their Spring season. This exciting incarnation, directed by Marian Waller, runs through July 9th at East Islip's BayWay Theatre and then heads over to BroadHollow's Elmont location beginning August 5th.

The Alliance Theatre has assembled a diverse group of 21 students for the 16th Palefsky Collision Project, an annual program that gives high-school students a platform to tackle important social issues. Guided by the Alliance's Mellon Playwright in Residence Pearl Cleage, director Patrick McColery, and assistant director Rodney Williams, participants are encouraged to find and claim their own voices within a judgment free zone of creativity and community. This innovative program challenges metro Atlanta teens to 'collide' with a classic text and make it their own. This year's catalytic text will be Congressman John Lewis's graphic novel March. As a young student activist, Congressman Lewis was inspired by the 1958 comic book Martin Luther King and the Montgomery Story. Now he brings the Civil Rights Movement to life for a whole new generation.
Lakewood Theatre Company opens its 65th season with Gore Vidal's quirky and humorous sci-fi satire, Visit to a Small Planet. Director Tobias Andersen brings to the stage a story of a flying-saucer spaceman with psychic powers who discovers love, pain, and beatniks on earth.
