Janine Jansen Concludes Perspectives Series with The Philadelphia Orchestra

Violinist Janine Jansen concludes herPerspectives series at Carnegie Hall this season joining Music Director Yannick Nézet-Séguinand The Philadelphia Orchestra on Tuesday, March 13 at 8:00 p.m. for the New York premiere of Dutch composer Michel Van der Aa's Violin Concerto. The piece, written especially for Ms. Jansen, is described by her as “full of energy and lyricism,” and reflects Ms. Jansen's long-time artistic partnership with the composer. Mr. Van der Aa has said that Ms. Jansen's personality served as his inspiration for the work. “If Janine had played the flute, I would have written a flute concerto,” he said.

Daniil Trifonov Continues Perspectives Series at Carnegie Hall With Five Concerts

After a tremendously successful solo recital and performance with Valery Gergiev and the Mariinsky Orchestra in fall 2017, pianist Daniil Trifonov continues his Perspectives series on Tuesday, February 6 at 8:00 p.m. in Stern Auditorium / Perelman Stage in collaboration with baritone Matthias Goerne as they explore Trifonov's self-described fascination with vocal music. The program includes Schumann's Dichterliebe; Berg's Four Songs, Op. 2; Wolf's Three Poems of Michelangelo; selections from Shostakovich's Suite, Op. 145; and Brahms's Vier ernste Ges nge, Op. 121.

GREAT COMET Creators Dave Malloy and Rachel Chavkin Honored with Smithsonian's 2017 Ingenuity Award Today

Smithsonian magazine previously announced the winners of the 2017 American Ingenuity Awards. Dave Malloy, creator, and Rachel Chavkin, director of the renowned Broadway musical Natasha, Pierre & The Great Comet of 1812, are being honored with the American Ingenuity Award in History. They will receive the award at an awards gala at the National Portrait Gallery today, November 29.
