Bilingual Play THE LONG ROAD/EL LARGO CAMINO DE HOY Opens Tonight

Two years ago, with funding from The James Irvine Foundation and in partnership with Latino Health Access, South Coast Repertory launched a play-development project in Santa Ana called Dialogue/Dialogos. The project captured the stories and memories of nearly 1,000 of the city's Latino residents, which created the core of a new bilingual play, The Long Road Today/El Largo Camino de Hoy,written by Jose Cruz Gonzalez.

The LA Opera Presents FLORENCIA EN EL AMAZONAS, 11/22-12/20

General Director Plácido Domingo has announced final details for LA Opera's first revival of Florencia en el Amazonas, an enchanting and romantic opera by composer Daniel Catán. Co-commissioned by LA Opera in 1995, the opera returns to the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion for six performances from November 22 through December 20, 2014. In the exquisitely beautiful opera, inspired by the fiction of Gabriel García Márquez, a steamboat passage along the fabled Amazon becomes a poignant voyage of discovery for all seven travelers on board.

The Washington National Opera Presents FLORENCIA IN THE AMAZON, 9/20-28

Washington National Opera (WNO) opens its 2014-2015 season with the company premiere of Daniel Cata?n and Marcela Fuentes-Berain's Florencia in the Amazon, September 20-28 in the Kennedy Center Opera House. This modern romantic drama, the first Spanish-language work WNO has presented in a decade, is inspired by the magical realism of Colombian author Gabriel Garci?a Ma?rquez. WNO Artistic Director Francesca Zambello revisits her world premiere production with members of her original creative team to present a fresh take on this contemporary classic. Conductor Carolyn Kuan leads the WNO Orchestra in her WNO debut.

Tony Plana & More to be Honored at Live Source Gala, 6/17

Multidisciplinary performance group Live Source will be hosting its inaugural Spring Gala honoring Tony Plana, Pregones Theatre, and Kathryn Giaimo on Tuesday, June 17 at the Spanish Benevolent Society in the heart of Chelsea. The evening, hosted in partnership with the Consulate General of Spain in New York / Spain Culture New York, will feature an open bar, appetizers, entertainment by classical Spanish guitarist Neil Quillen, raffle prizes, and a brief awards presentation.

Anthony Rodriguez to Participate in 2014 NALAC LEADERSHIP INSTITUTE

The National Association of Latino Arts and Cultures- NALAC announced today the names of the participants for their 14th Annual NALAC Leadership Institute that will take place July 14-19, 2014 at Our Lady of the Lake University in San Antonio, Texas. The Leadership Institute convenes Latino arts leaders for an intensive, one-week training in nonprofit arts management and leadership development. Anthony Rodriguez is one of the twenty-eight participants that will be part of the 2014 NALAC Leadership Institute.

United States Artists Relocates Headquarters to Chicago

Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events Commissioner Michelle Boone, Carolina Garcia Jayaram, Chief Executive Officer of United States Artists (USA) and USA's Board of Directors are announcing today that USA, one of the nation's largest grant-making and advocacy organizations, supporting artists across eight major disciplines, will move its headquarters from Los Angeles to Chicago. USA is in the process of hiring local staff and finding a location for the new office within the city.

MADAME BUTTERFLY, THE PEARL FISHERS & More Set for Utah Opera's 2014-15 Season

Utah Opera Artistic Director Christopher McBeth today announced Utah Opera's 2014-15 season. The company's 37th season will feature four productions between October 2014 and May 2015, including the company premieres of Georges Bizet's The Pearl Fishers and Igor Stravinsky's The Rake's Progress. The season will also feature the debut of Utah Symphony's Music Director Thierry Fischer in his first Utah Opera conducting role, leading The Rake's Progress.

Campion Decent Wins 2012 Rodney Seaborn Playwrights Award

Last night at the Seaborn Broughton and Walford Foundation (SBW) Christmas Party, Gaz Simpson, Chairman of the Rodney Seaborn Playwrights Trust, announced that CAMPION DECENT had won the 2012 Rodney Seaborn Playwrights Award for his play "Unholy Ghosts".
