Griffin Theatre Company has announced its 30th Anniversary Season, featuring four productions exploring the theme 'the journeys we take to find ourselves,' including two Chicago premieres.
Goodman Theatres honors the life and legacy of Howard Witt, one of the American theater's most accomplished actors, by hosting a public celebration event on Monday, October 2. Witt, whose six-decade theatrical career began and ended at the Goodman, passed away peacefully on June 21 at the age of 85. The celebration includes remarks and artistic presentations by Witt's family, including his three children-Deborah, Robin and Joshua Witt-close friends and artists.
This summer's runaway hit is Steep Theatre's Lela & Co. This powerful U.S. premiere will run through September 16. Steep is adding eight new chances to hear Lela's passionately told story of resilience and hope in the face of overwhelming adversity, featuring Cruz Gonzalez-Cadel and Chris Chmelik, whose performances have been described as 'stunning,' 'fantastic,' and 'extraordinary empathetic.'

Season 16 will feature a world premiere from Chicago playwright Alex Lubischer, a U.S. premiere from Olivier Award-winning playwright Mike Bartlett, a U.S. premiere from rising English playwright Cordelia Lynn, and a Midwest premiere from California-based playwright Lauren Yee. The Jeff Awards Committee today announced 121 nominations in 24 categories for the 43rd Annual Non-Equity Jeff Awards for productions that opened between April 1, 2015, and March 31, 2016. The Non-Equity Awards honor excellence in Chicago theatres not under a union contract. Jeff judges attended opening nights of 148 productions offered by 67 Non-Equity producing organizations. The Jeff Committee recommended 65 of those shows (or 44%), making them eligible for Non-Equity Jeff Award nominations. Of the 65 Jeff Recommended productions, a record 53 (or 82%) received nominations, representing 32 theatre companies.
Steep Theatre Company opened its first show, Keith Reddin's Life During Wartime, in early March 2001. On March 7, 2016, the ensemble will celebrate its 15th anniversary with a one-night-only staged reading of Simon Stephens' HARPER REGAN, held in Steppenwolf Theatre's upstairs performance space. Steep's 2010 production of HARPER REGAN was a landmark production for the ensemble and an iconic example of Steep's daring, powerful, and ensemble-driven brand of theatre.
