The Glimmerglass Festival Appoints New Artistic Staff

The Glimmerglass Festival has appointed Allen Perriello as the new Director of the Young Artists Program, and current Glimmerglass principal coach/accompanist Christopher Devlin has accepted the position of Head of Music Staff, effective immediately.

Cast Change for Glimmerglass Festival SWEENEY TODD

Molly Jane Hill will sing the role of Mrs. Lovett in The Glimmerglass Festival's production of Stephen Sondheim's Sweeney Todd beginning August 15, replacing Luretta Bybee who has withdrawn from the role. The new production runs throughAugust 27 in the Alice Busch Opera Theater in Cooperstown, New York.

Minnesota Opera Announces Robert Ainsley as New Director of Young Artist Program & More

MINNEAPOLIS (July 29, 2016) – Minnesota Opera today announced that Head of Music Robert Ainsley has accepted the position as the new Director of the Domingo-Cafritz Young Artist Program and the American Opera Initiative, effective next month. For the last three years, Rob has served as the Head of Music Staff, Chorus Master and Coach at Minnesota Opera and Opera Theatre of Saint Louis. He has worked on several world premiere and American operas at both companies, including Minnesota Opera's The Dream of Valentino, The Manchurian Candidate and The Shining.

Stephanie Blythe will perform in concert at The Glimmerglass Festival on Friday, August 5, at 4:30 p.m. The mezzo-soprano replaces Deborah Voigt, whose commitments have increased with her new position as a member of the full-time faculty at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music.

Summer Stages: No Rest for the Opera Crowd in the Northeast This Summer

Although the solstice doesn't officially appear for another week or so, the summer opera clock is already ticking. There's a plethora of performances going on all over New York City, in addition to interesting, entertaining and fascinating productions that are just a hop, skip and jump away. Among them: Lincoln Center's Lincoln Center Festival and Mostly Mozart and On Site Opera's West Village venue, to the more bucolic realms of Bard SummerScape in Dutchess County (NY) for Mascagni and Caramoor in Katonah (NY) for Rossini and Beethoven.

Minnesota Opera Premieres THE SHINING Opera Tonight

On May 7th, the highly anticipated world premiere of The Shining - a new opera based on Stephen King's 1977 best-selling novel - by Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Paul Moravec and librettist Mark Campbell, will be presented by the Minnesota Opera, at the Music Theater at the Ordway in St. Paul, Minnesota. With less than three weeks to go before the curtain rises, all 7,056 seats across The Shining's four performances are sold out and only standing room tickets remain for the production which runs through May 15th.

MusicaNova to Host 'Triple Header' Performance This Month

MusicaNova Orchestra begins the New Year with a bang, presenting events in each of its three concert series in a two-week span, January 10 - 24th at venues around the Valley. 2015 Hunting Art Prize Announces Finalists

HOUSTON, Feb. 17, 2015 /PRNewswire/ Hunting PLC announced that 110 artists have been selected to move on to the final round of judging in the 2015 Hunting Art Prize in which participants vie for a $50,000 award. The competition, which is celebrating its 35 th anniversary, is the largest prize in the category of painting and drawing available in North America.

The Ohio State University School of Music to Present REQUIEM, 3/8

More than 160 vocalists, four soloists and a large orchestra will join together to perform Giuseppe Verdi's Requiem, the dramatic funeral mass first performed in Italy in 1874, at 3 p.m. Sunday, March 8 in Ohio State's Mershon Auditorium. Marshall Haddock, Ohio State's director of orchestral studies, will conduct the performance.

The American Repertory Theater of WNY brings the bewitching timeless classic THE CRUCIBLE by America's Shakespeare, Arthur Miller. This legendary piece of the 1692 Salem witch trials will be presented on October 30th and runs Thursday through Saturday, 7:30 pm at ART in the Box, 16 Linwood Avenue, Buffalo NY 14219. All showtimes are 7:30 pm with ticket prices ranging from $25 general admission ($20 online), $18 student/military veteran ($15 online).

SFCM, Oberlin Conservatory of Music and Sonoma State's Green Music Center Launch THE NATIONAL BRASS ENSEMBLE PROJECT

San Francisco Conservatory of Music (SFCM), Oberlin Conservatory of Music and Sonoma State University's Green Music Center today announced The National Brass Ensemble Project, a partnership formed to present a newly created group, the National Brass Ensemble, in a week-long residency taking place June 9 - 14, 2014 in Rohnert Park and San Rafael, California. The Ensemble, a singular collection of musicians from across the United States, features 24 leading brass players and two percussionists from the Boston Symphony, Chicago Symphony, Cleveland, Detroit Symphony, Los Angeles Philharmonic, New York Philharmonic, Philadelphia and San Francisco Symphony orchestras.

Custom Made Theatre to Close Season with THE CRUCIBLE, 5/20-6/22

Custom Made Theatre caps its 15th season with Arthur Miller's The Crucible, directed by Stuart Bousel. The Crucible is arguably The Great American Play, a classic story of individuals confronting the corruption within their society and standing up for their convictions under even the direst of circumstances. Custom Made has assembled a cast of 17 to portray the frightening times of 17th Century Salem, Massachusetts. New Harriet Tubman Opera to Preview at Harlem's Schomburg Center, Today

AOP (American Opera Projects), and the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture will co-present an evening of scenes from Nkeiru Okoye's folk opera Harriet Tubman: When I Crossed That Line to Freedom that tells of how a young girl born in slavery, becomes Harriet Tubman, the legendary Underground Railroad conductor. The musical excerpts will be followed by an artist Q&A moderated by WQXR's Terrance McKnight. The concert will be presented today, December 9, 2013 at 6:30 PM at the Langston Hughes Auditorium: 515 Malcolm X Boulevard, New York, NY 10037-1801.
