On Thursday, March 13, the Houston Symphony will continue its legendary centennial celebration by performing alongside one of the leading figures in the recording industry, Steve Tyrell. Under the leadership of Houston Symphony Associate Conductor Robert Franz, Tyrell and the orchestra will perform American standards like 'You're So Nice to Come Home To,' 'The Way You Look Tonight' and 'I Get a Kick Out of You,' to name just a few. The Grammy Award-winning Tyrell will also invite his friends Diane Schuur, Judith Hill and Lew Soloff to the stage to share the evening with him as he sings the night away to timeless classics in this one-night only special performance.

Classical music enthusiasts will have an opportunity to come to both Jones Hall and Sugar Land Baptist Church to see the Symphony's Music Director Designate Andres Orozco-Estrada conduct the concert Midori Plays Mendelssohnfeaturing Japanese American violin superstar Midori on October 17-20. Then, on October 24, 26 and 27, the Symphony's newly appointed Principal Oboist Jonathan Fischer will take the solo spotlight in Mozart and Schumann to perform Mozart's tuneful Oboe Concerto.
The Morrison Center announces a Celebration of Velma V. Morrison's life on Sunday, September 22, 2013 at 3:00 p.m. at the Velma V. The program will include guest speakers and a free concert by Tony Award-winner Brian Stokes Mitchell ('Kiss Me Kate', 'Man of La Mancha') accompanied by the Boise Philharmonic under the musical direction of Robert Franz. Outside of select seating held for the family and speakers, seating will be open to the public and on a first-come, first-served basis. No ticket is required. Parking is free. The community is encouraged to attend.

Led by associate conductor Robert Franz, the concert will also feature cello soloist Christine Lamprea, a native of San Antonio and winner of the 2013 Sphinx Competition, who will make her debut with the Houston Symphony performing Tchaikovsky's technically challenging Variations on a Rococo Theme for Cello and Orchestra.
