Today, July 13, the Houston Symphony will present a free 12-hour Day of Music at Jones Hall. As a special event during the Symphony's Centennial Season, Day of Music will be set aside to celebrate Houston's musical diversity. Houston Symphony performances will bookend the day with a Family Concert at 10:00 a.m. and the annual Houston Chronicle Concert at 8:00 p.m.. Between the two Symphony performances, over 25 community music groups will perform samplings of Jazz, Rock, Blues, R&B, Acoustic Guitar, Blue Steel Drums, Mariachi, Japanese Drumming and more on five stages inside and outside of Jones Hall. Various chamber music ensembles, student groups and church and community choirs will also perform an assortment of classical music throughout the day.

In addition to hearing great music, audiences can participate in harmonica clinics taught by the Houston Blues Museum at 12:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. on the Balcony level. Before the 10:00 a.m. Family Concert, there will be craft activities and an Instrument Petting Zoo, where children can try out the different instruments of the orchestra.

Audiences are welcome to come and go or stay all day to hear great music celebrating Houston's musical talent and diversity. Between performances, concertgoers can walk across Louisiana Street to Jones Plaza to sample some of Houston's finest food truck fare while listening to music performed on the Patio in front of Jones Hall. Food trucks include Bernie's Burger Bus, Coreanos, The Waffle Bus, Happy Endings and Chi'lantro BBQ. In the evening, free refreshments will be provided by St. Arnold's Brewery.
