On Friday evening, May 24, Playbill's Blake Ross and BroadwayWorld.com's Rob and Jennifer Diamond co-hosted the only birthday party that took two editors of two major theatre web sites to plan ... Director/Producer Richard Jay-Alexander's 60th Birthday Bash! The party, held on the third floor of theatre district hot spot Angus McIndoe's restaurant, played host to friends, family, colleagues and more, so we couldn't resist sharing some of Linda Lenzi's wonderful pictures with you. The 58th Annual Drama Desk took place last night, May 19th at Town Hall (123 W. 43rd Street), and miserable rain didn't stop the festivities. One of the world's best loved musicals, based on the memoir of Maria Von Trapp; The Story of the Trapp Family Singers. She fills the lives of the Von Trapp children with "The Sound of Music" and captures the heart of their stern and lonely father. But, will their harmonious lives be torn apart when their beautiful homeland is ravaged by war? Rodgers and Hammerstein's Tony Award-winning musical delights audiences with the uplifting story and an irresistible score: "Climb Every Mountain," "Do-Re-Mi," "Edelweiss" and "My Favorite Things."

Quite appropriately, Jekyll and Hyde is one of the most polarizing musicals ever to hit New York.  Despite running well over three and half years in its initial 1997 Broadway run, Frank Wildhorn and Leslie Bricusse's pop rock adaptation of Robert Louis Stevenson's classic horror tale of a young scientist who uses himself as the guinea pig in an experiment to separate the good and evil in man and then proceeds to murder those who called him mad is regularly mocked as a prime example of Broadway ineptitude.  And yet the show maintains a loyal following of fans that are no doubt thrilled at its return.

At separate moments early on in Sara Cooper (book/lyrics) and Zach Redler's (music) ambitious and noteworthy The Memory Show, each of the musical's two characters refers to herself as being a funny person while acknowledging that funny people are often the sad ones.

It was announced today that the new Broadway production of JEKYLL & HYDE -starring Constantine Maroulis and Deborah Cox - will play the final performance of its limited Broadway engagement on Sunday, May 12, 2013, after 15 previews and 30 regular performances at the Marquis Theatre.Direct from a 25-week national tour which launched in October 2012, JEKYLL & HYDE began previews on Broadway Friday, April 5, 2013 and opened on Thursday, April 18, 2013.

The 27th Annual Easter Bonnet Competition raised a staggering $4,250,542 - eclipsing the previous high of $3,734,129 set in 2007. The grand total was announced Tuesday after six weeks of intensive fundraising for Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS by 47 Broadway, Off-Broadway and national touring companies. Four-time Tony Award winner Harvey Fierstein (Kinky Boots), two-time Academy Award winner Tom Hanks (Lucky Guy) and Grammy Award winner Cyndi Lauper (Kinky Boots) were on hand to announce the grand total at this year's Easter Bonnet Competition, which ended in two shows featuring original presentations, songs, dances and 19 intricate, custom-made bonnets. The stars will align for the 27th Annual Easter Bonnet Competition when Tom Hanks, Cyndi Lauper, Harvey Fierstein, Andrea Martin, Nathan Lane and more than 200 of Broadway and Off-Broadway's most talented performers join together for the annual event, presented by and benefiting Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS. This year's Easter Bonnet Competition will be held today, April 22 and Tuesday, April 23 at the Minskoff Theatre, 200 West 45th Street.

Outer Critics Circle, the organization of writers covering New York theatre for out-of-town newspapers, national publications and other media beyond Broadway, reports that multi award-winning stars Robert Cuccioli and Laila Robins will announce the nominees for the 2012-13 season today, April 22nd (11AM) at The Friars Club (57 East 55th Street- between Park and Madison Avenues).
