The 2012-2013 Mirvish Production season announcement took place this morning, and features the World Premiere of Jason Robert Brown's Honeymoon in Vegas, an all-Canadian cast for Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice's The Wizard of Oz and the smash-hit Book of Mormon. Members of the media, subscribers and eager theatre lovers filled the Ed Mirvish Theatre to hear the announcement, which also included La Cage Aux Folles, Sister Act and Backbeat plus the pre-Broadway run of Flashdance and the directorial debut of Colm Wilkinson in Bloodless.
Tony Award Nominee Gavin Creel (HAIR; Thoroughly Modern Millie) will step back onto the Joe's Pub stage for one-night-only to celebrate the debut of his brand new solo album Get Out, he announced from the stage of his sold-out Lincoln Center American Songbook Series concert. On Monday, March 19, the singer, actor and activist will play 7:00 PM and 9:30 PM concerts at Joe's Pub (425 Lafayette Street). Audience members with tickets to the 9:30 PM concert will be invited to stay for a post-show album release party.
FLASHDANCE - THE MUSICAL, the stage adaptation of the 1983 hit film that will play Broadway in Fall 2012, will launch the national tour with an additional company on January 1, 2013 at the Heinz Hall in Pittsburgh, the steel town that serves as the show's setting. FLASHDANCE will go on to play over 25 markets in North America. Additional cities and tour casting will be announced in the coming months.

Broadway regular Sergio Trujillo will direct and choreograph the project, which is set for New York readings this winter and will reportedly head to Toronto for its out-of-town tryout according to a new Equity casting notice. According to the notice, the show will play Toronto from June 26 to August 5, 2012, and opening night on Broadway is currently scheduled for September 20.
According to the NY Ties, producers have confirmed that a fully reworked version of FLASHDANCE, which opened in the West End in 2010, is headed to Broadway in Fall 2012. Producer Thomas Viertel told NYT: "We felt we'd learned enough from the London production to re-work the show substantially and then perhaps take it out on tour, but then we did a table reading of the new script this fall and felt we had the makings of a solid Broadway show. It was a Lazarus-like moment."
