Tarragon Theatre launches its 2014-15 season with an English-language rendition of Florian Borchmeyer's and Thomas Ostermeier's celebrated adaptation and production of An Enemy of the People by Henrik Ibsen. In what promises to be one of the most exciting events of the theatre season in Toronto, this contemporary mirror for our times previews fromSeptember 16, opens September 24 and runs to October 26 in Tarragon's Mainspace.

The world's most famous fictional sleuth adds a novel chapter to his repertoire with playwright Jeffrey Hatcher's electrifying new whodunit SHERLOCK HOLMES AND THE ADVENTURE OF THE SUICIDE CLUB, which opens the Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park's 55th season. The play is an inventive mash-up of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's iconic characters and the Robert Louis Stevenson short story "The Suicide Club," providing a clever, intricately woven new mystery for Holmes to deduce. SHERLOCK HOLMES AND THE ADVENTURE OF THE SUICIDE CLUB runs Sept. 6 through Oct. 4 in the Robert S. Marx Theatre.

The Barbara Hamilton Memorial Award was inaugurated in 1996 and is given to a Canadian artist who demonstrates excellence in the performing arts and is dedicated to advocating and being an ambassador for the arts in Canada. The Barbara Hamilton Memorial Award is presented every two years and is sponsored by the City of Toronto. The recipient is awarded with an official scroll from the City and this year the City has increased the cash prize from $1,000 to $ 1,750.

Tarragon Theatre presents the world premiere of A God in Need of Help by playwright-in-residence Sean Dixon, directed by the theatre's artistic director, Richard Rose. This vividly painted sojourn into 17th century Europe examines the role of faith at the dawn of the Age of Reason and opens tonight, April 23, running to May 25 (with previews from April 16) in Tarragon's Mainspace. The CSO presents its premier of Igor Stravinsky's monumental work The Rite of Spring on Thursday, April 24, 2014 at 7:30pm at the Tivoli Theatre. Originally premiered in Paris at the The?a?tre des Champs-E?lyse?es on May 29, 1913 as Le Sacre du Printemps, this avant-garde ballet was received with an outbreak of riots and hysteria. The score was ground-breaking with its new uses of meter, tonality, rhythm, and dissonance creating a new abrasive orchestral sound. Stravinsky described the piece as "a musical-choreographic work, [representing] pagan Russia ... unified by a single idea: the mystery and great surge of the creative power of Spring'. Over time, The Rite of Spring has become widely viewed as the single most important piece of 20th century symphonic literature that ushered in a new era of musical composition.

Tarragon Theatre's hit show Lungs by the award-winning British playwright Duncan Macmillan, directed by Weyni Mengesha and starring Brendan Gall and Lesley Faulkner, received nothing but raves during its five week run in Tarragon's Extraspace.

The Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park's Off the Hill series for families concludes with THE SHORT TREE AND THE BIRD THAT COULD NOT SING, which will tour to community venues throughout the Tristate from today, April 8 through May 24. Recommended for ages 5 and up, the show is a wacky fable of an unlikely friendship between a tree that resents its roots and a spunky, unflappable bird with a horrible singing voice.
