American Conservatory Theater's (A.C.T.) highly anticipated production of Armistead Maupin's Tales of the City has been extended an additional two weeks through July 24 due to unprecedented demand. The world premiere musical amassed the largest advance sale in A.C.T.'s history prior to its first preview performance on May 18 and has continued to break sales records heading into this week's opening night gala. Capturing the charm of the original source material, TALES OF THE CITY benefits from a strong cast fully committed to the work. Yet if Broadway is the goal, quite a bit of retooling, balancing and focusing remains, all within the grasp of this talented team.
The glam-rock band Scissor Sisters signed on to write the music and lyrics for ARMISTEAD MAUPIN'S TALES OF THE CITY. The set, which features a lofty set of stairs and landings at 28 Barbary Lane, is by Broadway vet Douglas Schmidt. The cast includes Judy Kaye as Anna Madrigal, Betsy Wolfe as Cleveland transplant Mary Ann Singleton, Wesley Taylor as the book's gay lead Michael 'Mouse' Tolliver and Mary Birdsong as bisexual Mona Ramsey.
American Conservatory Theater (A.C.T.) announces that Tony Award winner and A.C.T. favorite Judy Kaye (Mamma Mia!, Ragtime, Phantom of the Opera, On the Twentieth Century on Broadway; Sweeney Todd and Souvenir at A.C.T.) will be taking on the iconic role of Anna Madrigal in the world premiere production of Armistead Maupin's Tales of the City.

Stltoday.com reports that the New Line Theatre in St. Louis has secured the rights to the musical Cry-Baby, which had a short run on Broadway in 2008. The musical will takes it's regional debut bow in the Spring of 2010, according to the report.

Another very effective manner to beat the winter chills is to receive a phone call from Harriet Harris, the Tony Award winning actress who starred in such Broadway shows as OLD ACQUAINTANCE, THE MAN WHO CAME TO DINNER, CRY-BABY and THOUROUGHLY MODERN MILLE, for which she received her coveted Tony. Currently co-starring with Victor Garber and Brooks Ashmanskas in the Roundabout Theatre's production of Noel Coward's comedy PRESENT LAUGHTER, Miss Harris took time out between matinee and evening performances for a conversation in the midst of a severe snowstorm. She was an excellent conversationalist and displayed great perception about theatre, human behavior and the production she is currently appearing in. Additionally, there's a warmth to her voice that made it easy to forget the inclement weather outside the window.
Victor Garber, currently starring in Roundabout Theatre Company's Present Laughter, will be featured on NY1's 'On Stage' this weekend beginning Saturday, February 20th on channel 1.
