Acclaimed playwright/director Young Jean Lee returns to the Wexner Center for the Arts, April 10-13 for the world premiere of STRAIGHT WHITE MEN, a provocative new work presented with an all-star cast (Austin Pendleton, Scott Shepherd, Pete Simpson, and James Stanley) and finalized through the support of the Wexner Center Residency Award program.
Performance Space 122 (PS122) announces RAMP, a new residency program designed to support early career artists. The residencies, to be held at The Chain Theatre (21-28 45th Rd.) in Long Island City, provide New York City-based artists with the resources to create ambitious new work. In addition to rehearsal space, RAMP will offer technical assistance, commissioning fees and marketing support. The intention of RAMP is to begin an ongoing relationship with a select group of artists, which may lead to large-scale presentations. The inaugural year of RAMP artists are the choreographic duo of Molly Lieber and Eleanor Smith, musician Eliot Krimsky and his progressive-indie band Glass Ghost, and theater artist Kaneza Schaal.
Following a 2013 world premiere at Theater Basel in Switzerland, New York City Players presents the U.S. premiere of Isolde. Returning to a core group of collaborators, Isolde, written and directed by Maxwell, features an ensemble of New York City Players veterans including Jim Fletcher, Brian Mendes, Tory Vazquez and Gary Wilmes. Maxwell's choice to not use any music in Isolde further supports a desire to excavate his own characteristically distilled approach to story telling. Isolde was inspired by the legend of Tristan and Isolde.

Soho Rep. announces casting and performance dates for the world premiere of Branden Jacobs-Jenkins's An Octoroon, directed by Soho Rep. Artistic Director Sarah Benson. The Bushwick Starr will present a collaboration between stage and film director Daniel Fish and dance and theater artist Andrew Dinwiddie. Using nearly seven weeks of residency time at the Bushwick Starr, and in collaboration with actor T. As part of the ninth edition of the COIL festival, Performance Space 122 and Danspace Project present the world premiere of Okwui Okpokwasili's Bronx Gothic. Using song, stories and movement, Okpokwasili chronicles the sexual awakening and exploits of two 11-year-old girls living in the Bronx. This solo performance features direction and visual design by Bessie award-winner Peter Born. Due to popular demand, a second week of performances has been added, today, January 28, 30-February 1.
The Spalding Gray National Consortium has announced that playwright and director Richard Maxwell is the recipient of the 2014 Spalding Gray Award. Named after the groundbreaking monologist Spalding Gray (1941-2004), the award is sponsored by the consortium that includes Kathleen Russo, Gray's widow; the Andy Warhol Museum in Pittsburgh; On the Boards in Seattle; Performance Space 122 in New York; and the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis. It comes with a $20,000 commission to create a new work and provides for a full production of that work by each organization. In his new work, Maxwell will collaborate with choreographer Sarah Michelson, who will take charge of the production's design, and actor Gary Wilmes, one of Maxwell's oldest friends and collaborators.

Soho Rep has announced that the celebrated stage and screen actor Larry Pine will star in the world premiere production of Lucas Hnath's adrenaline-charged odyssey A Public Reading of an Unproduced Screenplay About the Death of Walt Disney. Directed by Soho Rep Artistic Director Sarah Benson, Pine will play the title character - the man who forever changed the American Dream. Hnath's fictional play centers around the reading of a screenplay Walt Disney has written about his last days on earth. The script is about a city he is going to build that is going to change the world; about his brother; about everyone who loves Disney and how sad they are going to be when he is gone.
