HERE LIES LOVE Extends Again Through June 2 at the Public

The Public Theater announced another two week extension today for the world premiere musical HERE LIES LOVE, with concept and lyrics by David Byrne, music by David Byrne and Fatboy Slim, additional music by Tom Gandey and J Pardo, and choreography by Annie-B Parson. Directed by Alex Timbers, HERE LIES LOVE began performances on Tuesday, April 2 and has been extended twice due to high demand. The new 360 degree musical will now run through Sunday, June 2 in The Public's LuEsther Theater, with an official press opening on Tuesday, April 23.

The Public's HERE LIES LOVE Extends Through May 19

The Public Theater (Artistic Director, Oskar Eustis; Executive Director, Patrick Willingham) announced a two week extension today for the world premiere musical HERE LIES LOVE, with concept and lyrics by David Byrne, music by David Byrne and Fatboy Slim, additional music by Tom Gandey and J Pardo, and choreography by Annie-B Parson. Directed by Alex Timbers, HERE LIES LOVE begins performances on Tuesday, April 2 and was originally scheduled to close on Sunday, May 5. It will now run an additional two weeks through Sunday, May 19.

Kitka Premieres New Folksongs, 3/8-10

The Bay Area's trailblazing and internationally acclaimed women's vocal ensemble, Kitka, is pleased to announce New Folksongs from Within, an original program featuring two world premieres conceived and created for the ensemble by two of Kitka's own vocalists, Janet Kutulas and Elizabeth Setzer. Kutulas's Iron Shoes is centered around the heroines of three separate Eastern European fairytales. Iron Shoes will be presented as a concert version of what will eventually be a fully-staged folk opera. Setzer's Apple Blossoms and Brine is a song cycle about the timeless experiences of love and heartbreak, loss and celebration. New Folksongs from Within takes place at Oakland's intimate new concert venue, the Piedmont Piano Company in Oakland, California, Friday, March 8 through Sunday, March 10, 2013.

New Amsterdam Singers Present COMFORT AND JOY at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 12/7 & 9

The New Amsterdam Singers, led by Clara Longstreth, will open its 45th season with a program entitled Comfort and Joy, featuring James MacMillan's Missa Brevis, the New York premieres of Judith Shatin's The God of Glory and Sheena Phillips's Two Carols, and works by Bach, Brahms, Victoria, Schutz, Randall Thompson, Abbie Betinis, and others. The concerts will take place tonight, December 7, 2012, at 8:00 p.m. and Sunday, December 9, at 4:00 p.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 122 East 88th Street (at Lexington Avenue).

John Kelly Plays Joe's Pub, Now thru 11/4

Visual artist, dancer, actor and downtown cabaret artist John Kelly will make his solo debut at Joe's Pub at The Public this fall, performing songs by Kurt Weill, Charles Aznavour, The Incredible String Band, Holcombe Waller and Carol Lipnik tonight, October 14, October 28 at 7 PM and November 4 at 9:30 PM.

The New Amsterdam Singers, led by music director Clara Longstreth, will present the final concert of the season, titled Songs of Birds and Angels on Thursday, May 31 at 8 p.m at Saint Ignatius of Antioch Episcopal Church at 552 West End Avenue at 87th Street. The work that inspired the program's focus on birds is Steven Stucky's cycle, Skylarks, (2001), which is receiving its New York City premiere on this concert. Also receiving its New York City premiere is Matthew Harris' Shakespeare Songs, Book VI (2006).

Brooklyn Academy of Music Announces 2012 Next Wave Festival Lineup

Joseph V. Melillo, executive producer of the Brooklyn Academy of Music, today announced programming for the 2012 Next Wave Festival, in its 30th year. The festival runs from September 5 to January 19 and comprises dance, theater, music, music-theater, nouveau cirque, film, and multimedia events.

The New York-based composers' group, Random Access Music, presents the first Queens New Music Festival from today May 10 through May 13, 2012 at the Little Secret Theatre (Studio 104, 44-02 23rd Street, Long Island City, Queens). This 'trailblazing festival seeks to highlight and promote composers, musicians, and ensembles living and creating new music in the borough of Queens.'

The New Amsterdam Singers and a bluegrass band will join forces for Carol Barnett's The World Beloved, A Bluegrass Mass,Friday, March 2 at 8 p.m. and Sunday, March 4 at 4 p.m. at The Church of the Holy Trinity, 316 East 88th Street (between First and Second Avenues). The work, premiered in 2007, combines the Latin text of the Mass with modern poetry and is accompanied by violin, mandolin, bass, banjo, and guitar- the traditional bluegrass forces.
