Paper Mill Playhouse hosted its largest fundraising event of the year, The 75th Anniversary Gala, on May 10th, 2013. The 75th Anniversary Gala celebrated Paper Mill's legacy as a world-class producer of theater and its role as a pioneer in arts education for three-quarters of a century. The evening offered dinner, dancing, live and silent auctions and entertainment by students from Paper Mill Playhouse's arts education programs, The Eddie Bruce Band, and headliner Jeremy Jordan, star of Broadway's Newsies and NBC's Smash. On Saturday, April 28th the Paper Mill Playhouse Board of Trustees voted to allow the theater to complete the full run of Seven Brides for Seven Brothers through Sunday, May 11th.
Although its immediate cash crisis is not over, the Paper Mill Playhouse Board of Trustees has given management permission to continue the run of Seven Brides for Seven Brothers yet another week
Paper Mill Playhouse is open, for now. Due to tremendous community support, Seven Brides for Seven Brothers had its first public performance on Wednesday, April 11.
Earlier today reports from various sources indicated that lending institutions would come to the rescue of Paper Mill Playhouse during its financial crisis. Although the theater is engaged in accelerated negotiations to obtain a loan that would allow it to finish the season, it is premature to claim that the theater will remain open.
