Palm Beach Dramaworks, West Palm Beach's multi-award winning professional theatre (201 Clematis Street), has announced the premiere of an exciting new venture, the Musical Theatre Masters Series. Modeled after PBD's very popular Master Playwrights Series, the new series will kick off on January 11 at 8pm, with a concert of Camelot, the final Broadway musical from the team of Alan Jay Lerner and Frederick Loewe. The remaining performances are January 12 (2pm and 8pm), and January 13 (2pm). The series will be directed by Clive Cholerton, former artistic director of the Caldwell Theatre Company in Boca Raton. Musical director for Camelot is Caryl Fantel. All tickets are $35.00. Tickets go on sale on November 14.

I daresay that playwright Jon Kern probably found a previously untried twist in the old staple of “meeting cute” in a romantic comedy by having the central couple of his play be a suicide bomber on a mission to sacrifice himself, and take as many lives as possible with him, on the observation deck of the Empire State Building, and a fellow terrorist helping to achieve his goal as revenge against an American drone attack that killed her husband on her wedding day when the celebration was mistaken for a Taliban gathering.

Broadway stars Emily Padgett and Matthew Hydzik will star as "Alex" and "Nick" in the world premiere of FLASHDANCE - THE MUSICAL, the stage adaptation of the 1983 hit film that defined a generation. Two recipients have been selected from the shortlist of six entries to receive the Richard Burton Award for Playwriting, created by Sally Burton in association with Black Swan State Theatre Company. These two writers have been awarded commissions worth $15,000 each. With a prize pool of $30,000, the Richard Burton Award for Playwriting is one of the richest in Australia.

Happy Birthday, Alfred Drake! He is best known for his leading roles in the original Broadway productions of Oklahoma!; Kiss Me, Kate; Kismet; and for playing Marshall Blackstone in the original production of Babes in Arms, (in which he sang the title song) and Hajj in Kismet, for which he received the Tony Award. His 1964 stage performance as Claudius in the Richard Burton Hamlet was filmed live on the stage of the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre. His final stage appearance in a musical was in 1973 as Honore LaChaisse in Lerner and Loewe's Gigi. Two years later he starred in a revival of The Skin of Our Teeth.

Lifetime has just released a new, behind-the-scenes video for their upcoming original TV biopic of Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton titled, LIZ & DICK.
