Festival D'Aix-en-Provence Launches 2015 Season Today

Festival d'Aix-en-Provence 2015, under the leadership of General Manager Bernard Foccroulle, will present world premiere productions of operas by Handel and Mozart; the return of director Robert Carsen's acclaimed 1991 Festival production of Benjamin Britten's A Midsummer Night's Dream; and the French premiere of Jonathan Dove's children's opera, The Monster in the Maze, led by Sir Simon Rattle with the London Symphony Orchestra. Major vocal presentations in 2015 will also include a new production of Serbian composer Ana Sokolovi?'s uncommonly original one-act a cappella opera Svadba (Marriage), and a double bill of Persephone-Stravinsky's hybrid musical work for speaker, singers, dancers, and orchestra-with Tchaikovsky's last opera, Iolanta.

Carnegie Hall, with medici.tv, to Offer Free Live Webcasts of Four Concerts

A new partnership between Carnegie Hall and medici.tv will make live webcasts of Carnegie Hall concert presentations available to audiences for the first time, showcasing performances by some of the world's most celebrated artists. A series of four free webcasts via medici.tv from Carnegie Hall's Stern Auditorium/Perelman Stage begins on Tuesday November 4 at 8 p.m. EST with a recital by mezzo-soprano Joyce DiDonato and pianistDavid Zobel. DiDonato-one of the most beloved singers of her generation-will perform a program of Venetian and Venetian-themed songs and arias from the Baroque through the 20th century. The lineup continues on TuesdayNovember 18 at 8 p.m. with acclaimed violinist Anne-Sophie Mutter leading The Mutter Virtuosi, in a program that includes the U.S. premiere of André Previn's Violin Concerto No. 2 as well as Vivaldi's The Four Seasons. On Saturday November 22 at 8 p.m., the dream team of violinist Leonidas Kavakos and pianist Yuja Wang perform music by Schumann, Brahms, Respighi and Stravinsky. The series of webcasts from the historic venue culminates on Tuesday December 9 at 8 p.m. with young Russian piano virtuoso Daniil Trifonov in works by Bach (arranged by Liszt), Beethoven and Liszt. Following each live webcast, free replay of these concerts will be available to online audiences on medici.tv for another 90 days, playable worldwide on all internet-enabled devices, including smart phones, tablets, Chromecast, computers and smart TVs.

Joyce DiDonato to Launch Carnegie Hall Perspectives Series, 10/26

This season, celebrated mezzo-soprano Joyce DiDonato curates a multi-part Carnegie Hall Perspectives series that showcases her vocal creativity and multifaceted talents, ranging from programs that include familiar and forgotten repertoire from the Baroque and bel canto eras to works by Jake Heggie written expressly for her. Her series kicks off on Sunday, October 26 at 2:00 p.m. as she sings the title role in a concert performance of Handel's Alcina alongside Harry Bicket and The English Concert.

Claudia Hommel and Elizabeth Doyle Perform Tonight at Mayne Stage Theater

Cabaret singers Claudia Hommel and Elizabeth Doyle will be accompanied by classical pianist Eugenia Cheng and accordionist Patricia Spaeth in a program that interweaves song and projected artwork. Called 'Vocal Canvas' by its creator Claudia Hommel, the multilayered, multimedia performance tour de force is the collaborative work of an A-list of Chicago's dynamic entertainers and artists past and present.

Cooperstown Summer Music Festival to Run 6/23-25

How many concerts feature a neurosurgeon, a judge, a color scientist and a molecular biologist performing with professional artists? That's what happens at the Cooperstown Summer Music Festival Pro Am. The performances, which will include works by Mendelssohn, Mozart, Haydn, Brahms and Reynaldo Hahn, will take place June 23 in Edmeston, June 24 in Cherry Valley, and June 25 at Hyde Hall.
