Works by Martín Zimmerman, A. Rey Pamatmat and More Set for Victory Gardens' 2012 IGNITION FESTIVAL

Victory Gardens Theater Artistic Director Chay Yew and Executive Director Jan Kallish announce the new plays selected for the company's 2012 IGNITION Festival. The selected plays are: Seven Spots on the Sun by Martin Zimmerman; The Shotgun Message by A. Rey Pamatmat; Samsara by Lauren Yee; Appropriate by Branden Jacobs-Jenkins and The Curious Walk of the Salamander by Kirsten Greenidge. VG Playwrights Ensemble Member Marcus Gardley will join the selected group as a Playwright-in-Residence. Gardley will spend his time researching and drafting his upcoming play Chicago is Burning.

American Blues Theater Presents ILLEGAL USE OF HANDS World Premiere, 8/31-9/30

American Blues Theater (ABT), Chicago's second oldest Equity ensemble, kicks off the Ensemble's 27th season with the world premiere of Illegal Use of Hands by Emmy Award-winner, two-time Pulitzer Prize finalist and ABT Artistic Affiliate James Still, directed by Sandy Shinner, August 31 - September 30 at Victory Gardens' Richard Christiansen Theater, 2433 N. Lincoln Avenue. Press opening for Illegal Use of Hands is Thursday, Sept. 6 at 7 p.m. Tickets range from $10 - $39. Complete ticket information including ticket on-sale date and performance schedule will be announced at a later date.

Magic Theatre Celebrates Asian Writers Through 2/13

Magic Theatre continues its mission of championing new, innovative theatrical voices with its 2012 Asian Explosion through February 13. This five-day festival will coincide with Magic Theatre's world premiere production of Lloyd Suh's Jesus in India, and will provide a forum for discovering and celebrating the vibrant community of Asian and South Asian writers for the theatre through a series a five readings and two solo performances offered for free to the public.

NEW THEATRE Announces Its 26th Anniversary Season

This season's theme of 'family' is kicked off with the Bard's triumphant family history, Henry V, adapted and directed by Ronald Mangravite, running August 26 - September 11, 2011. Henry V, the final play about the reigning family crown, chronicles King Henry V's war with France over land and titles. As part of the National New Play Network's Continued Life for New Plays Fund and in conjunction with Actors Theatre of Louisville's Humana Festival in Kentucky and Actor's Express Theatre in Atlanta, New Theatre presents the rolling World Premiere of Edith Can Shoot Things and Hit Them by recent Yale Playwrighting graduate A. Rey Pamatmat and directed by THE NEW's Artistic Director, Ricky J. Martinez, running October 14 - 30, 2011.

Photo Flash: Lark Play Development Center Honors Katori Hall & Sandi Goff Farkas

The Lark Play Development Center hosted a special event on October 11th celebrating playwright Katori Hall on her Broadway debut with The Mountaintop. (The Mountaintop was extensively developed at the Lark.) Lark board member and playwright Sandi Goff Farkas was also honored at the October 11th event with the first every Lark Risktaker Award for her creation of the Playwrights of New York (PONY) Fellowship. The Risktaker Award recognizes the leadership, vision and commitment of an individual who has defied convention in making a major contribution to supporting daring new voices in the American theater.

Perry-Mansfield Announces 98th Summer Season in Steamboat Springs, CO

The Perry-Mansfield Performing Arts School (Jim Steinberg, Board Chairman; Victor Maog, Director of Theatre), has announced its ambitious 2011 summer season of live theatre at the venerable performing arts camp and school in Steamboat Springs, CO, July 14 - August 5th with full productions of four commissioned new works: Out of Joint by A. Rey Pamatmat, The Moon, created, directed and choreographed by Otis Sallid, the new musical, Hércule's Labour of Love, with Book, Music and Lyrics by Aaron & Anna Jones, Nancy Blue: Girl Detective by Megan Mostyn-Brown and the classic Meredith Willson favorite, The Music Man.
