Austin Durant, Reggie Gowland, Chris Myers, Rachel Nicks, Michele Shay, Lance Coadie Williams, and Charlayne Woodard will be featured in the upcoming LCT3/Lincoln Center Theater production of WAR by Branden Jacobs-Jenkins, directed by Lileana Blain-Cruz.  WAR will begin performances Saturday, May 21; open Monday, June 6; and run for six weeks only through Sunday, July 3 at the Claire Tow Theater (150 West 65th Street). 

I just saw the opening night of RED by John Logan at Boise Contemporary Theater. Wow. They are, aside from Idaho Shakespeare Festival and the National Touring Shows, the only professional theatre in Boise and they proved why.

Though I'll admit it strikes the ear rather oddly to hear a character referred to as another one's slave in a play set in 1930s upstate New York, that's just one of the risks involved when transporting Shakespeare into a more modern setting. Nevertheless, director Daniel Sullivan's zippy new Delacorte Theater production of The Comedy of Errors hits the ears and eyes just right for 90 minutes of good laughs and snazzy dancing.

Jenny Schwartz's Somewhere Fun, receiving a splendidly performed and whimsically mounted production from director Anne Kauffman at the Vineyard, is one of those plays where an author's traditional response to the traditional post-viewing question is, 'Well, what do you think it means?'

According to a notice from the Public Theater, no performance will be canceled before 8:30pm, even if it's raining. A performance might be delayed, but will perform if and when possible and safe for the actors.

American Conservatory Theater (A.C.T.), in partnership with the San Francisco Bicycle Coalition (SFBC), is providing a greener alternative to theater transportation. For two performances of the West Coast premiere of 4000 Miles-Thursday, January 17, and Thursday, January 24-A.C.T. will host Bike to the Theater Night, during which the SFBC will offer free valet bike parking for all patrons who cycle to the theater. Patrons who bike to the theater will receive a special discount on tickets that evening ($35 Orchestra, $25 Mezzanine, or $10 Balcony using code BIKE10 (online or by phone). Valet bike parking is available one hour prior to showtime. Bicycles will be attended throughout the evening. Patrons are asked to bring their own locks.
