TV: Broadway Unites for Encore Performance of 'New York, New York' in Honor of 9/11

Today, September 9, The Broadway League presented a special 9/11 Tribute in Duffy Square, for which the Broadway community united for an encore rendition 'New York, New York' in honor of the iconic performance that took place one decade ago when Broadway performers helped inspire New Yorkers to return to normalcy with a landmark outdoor sing-a-long to the same tune. As reported earlier this week, actor/singer-songwriter Reeve Carney (Broadway's Spiderman: Turn off the Dark) has been cast as Jeff Buckley in the forthcoming 'Untitled Jeff Buckley' film, it was announced by the filmmakers. Carney told Bilboard about the project: 'I think we're all on the same page in wanting to make something that honors Jeff's life and his legacy. There's something about Jeff -- there's so much mystery surrounding his existence. He just had this... mystic quality, that's similar to what James Dean had.'

Actor/singer-songwriter Reeve Carney (Broadway's Spiderman: Turn off the Dark) has been cast as Jeff Buckley in the forthcoming 'Untitled Jeff Buckley' film, it was announced today by the filmmakers. To be directed by Jake Scott (Welcome to the Rileys), and written by Ryan Jaffe (story by, The Rocker), the filmmakers hold a robust rights package that includes the exclusive rights to Jeff's music and personal archives, and is fully supported by Buckley's mother, Mary Guibert, who serves as executive producer. Michelle Sy (Finding Neverland) and Orian Williams (Control) are producing, with Alison Raykovich (Jeff Buckley Music) serving as associate producer. Producers are currently out to additional cast for the project.

Reeve Carney and Band Set to Open for U2's '360 Tour' Tonight

Carney, the band that plays onstage for SPIDER-MAN Turn Off the Dark and whose lead singer, Reeve Carney, is the show's star, will open for U2 this summer. As per the band's website, 'Carney will be joining U2 for the last date of their epic 360° Tour alongside Arcade Fire at Magnetic Hill in Moncton, New Brunswick on July 30th 2011'.
