White, Cooper, Hanes Join Sondheim's 'PUTTING IT TOGETHER'

Syracuse Stage's production of Putting It Together has announced casting including Lillias White, Chuck Cooper, Tyler Hanes, Andre Ward, and Stephanie Youell. Book, Lyrics and Music by Stephen Sondheim, Conceived by Stephen Sondheim and Julia McKenzie, Directed and Choreographed by Rajendra Ramoon Maharaj, Musical Direction by Dianne Adams McDowell.

American Idol Anwar Robinson to Star in Syracuse's 'Godspell'

Syracuse Stage announces today that Anwar Robinson-Top Ten Finalist in the fourth season of American Idol, Recording Artist, Broadway and Film Actor-is confirmed to play the role of Jesus in the upcoming holiday production of Godspell, directed by Stage's Associate Artistic Director Rajendra Ramoon Maharaj. Featuring popular hit songs and multi-media projections, Godspell is a collaboration between Syracuse Stage and the Department of Drama in The College of Visual and Performing Arts at Syracuse University.

'I've written a play about four African American women who changed the face of history,' Rajendra Ramoon Maharaj told me bluntly one day during rehearsal for Bubbling Brown Sugar, a concert revival of the show that put Amas on the map all those moons ago, that he was directing for us a couple years back. 'Who are they?' I asked. 'You never heard of them, I promise', he replied. 'Wanna bet?' I said. 'How much?' he challenged. 'I'll do a reading of it IF I lose', was my offer. 'VERY COOL!' he says … 'Here they are: Eliza Anna Grier, Geraldine Pittman Woods, Jane Cooke Wright, and Evelyn Boyd Granville.'

Crossroads Theatre Company will open the 2008-2009 celebration season opens with The Colored Museum by George C. Wolfe which had its World Premiere at Crossroads Theatre in 1986 under the direction of Crossroads co-founder L. Kenneth Richardson. George C. Wolfe was a resident artist at Crossroads at that time and it is widely recognized that The Colored Museum helped to put Crossroads on the national map as well as launch Wolfe's brilliant career.
