Photo Flash: Sneak Peek at NIU's THE NORTHERN STARS OF DANCE Concert

Northern Illinois University (NIU) proudly presents The Northern Stars of Dance Concert at the Ruth Page Center for the Performing Arts, 1016 N. Dearborn St., April 10 - 12. Showcasing the talent of alumni, students and faculty from the NIU School of Theatre and Dance, the performance will center on Spent Days Out Yonder, a piece choreographed by internationally renowned choreographer Bill T. Jones. Performances take place Friday, April 10 and Saturday, April 11 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, April 12 at 2 p.m. Scroll down for a sneak peek at the dancers in action!

CSO's RHAPSODY IN BLUE Concludes American Roots Festival This Weekend

Led by guest conductor Donato Cabrera and featuring guest pianist Thomas Lauderdale of Pink Martini, this concert offers not only Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue, the all-time classic synthesis of Carnegie Hall and Tin Pan Alley, but two more pieces with similar flavors from Gershwin's fellow American, George Antheil.

THE SIGNAL: A DOO WOP RHAPSODY to Make Chicago Premiere 3/9 at City Winery

The Spaniels, Willie Rogers of The Soul Stirrers and Stormy Weather come together at City Winery for the Chicago premiere of The Signal. Direct from standing-room only sellouts in the Midwest, this new musical revue is a true story told in narrative and song by a star-studded cast at 45 rpm. The Signal: A Doo Wop Rhapsody 'transmits' Monday, March 9, 8 p.m. at City Winery Chicago, 1200 W. Randolph.

Alan Lomax Archive Celebrates the Folklorist's Centennial With 6-LP Box Set

On January 31st, the Association for Cultural Equity celebrates Lomax's 100th birthday on PledgeMusic with a centennial tribute: a 100 song 6-LP set AND a series of fan-curated 7' singles, giving fans the unique opportunity to be involved in the music production process on the direct-to-fan platform.

Mark Hummel again returns to Harris Center for the Arts and brings more of his talented friends with him in this tribute to Bluebird Records. The Blues Harmonica Blowout has sold out in past performances and with the caliber of talent joining this evening's activities, tickets will be in high demand!

STAGE TUBE: On This Day for 1/3/15- THE CRADLE WILL ROCK

Today in 1938, The Cradle Will Rock opened at the Windsor Theatre. Originally a part of the Federal Theatre Project, it was directed by Orson Welles, and produced by John Houseman. The show was recorded and released on seven 78-rpm discs in 1938, making it the first cast album recording. Following the impromptu opening and a brief run at the Venice Theatre (later renamed the New Century Theatre) in July 1937, the production reopened on January 3, 1938, at the Windsor Theatre under the auspices of the new Mercury Theatre Company. It played a total of 108 performances.

BWW Reviews: Funky, Fun, HIGH FIDELITY, A MUSICAL at Blank Canvas

Pat Ciamacco, artistic director at Blank Canvas, has a 'thing' for off-beat musicals. Sure, he produced 'Hair' and 'Godspell,' but it's more likely that what you'll see mounted on his stage are 'Beach Blanket Party,' 'Debbie Does Dallas,' and 'Texas Chainsaw Musical.' I'm surprised he's missed out on 'Bullshot Crummond,' 'Dance of the Vampires,' 'Expresso Bongo,' 'Hands on a Hard Body, and, of course, 'The Rocky Horror Show.'

Arcadia Performing Arts Foundation presents its second season at the Arcadia Performing Arts Center -- Three Dog Night on Saturday, January 10 at 8 pm; The Four Tops on Saturday, February 21 at 8 pm; Big Bad Voodoo Daddy on Friday, March 27 at 8 pm; The Muppet Movie Sing-a-Long on Saturday, May 16 at 2 pm and Dick Fox Doo Wop Extravaganza on Saturday, June 6 at 7 pm. This four concert season, and the additional attraction The Muppet Movie Sing-A-Long, is presented by the Arcadia Performing Arts Foundation and is a means of raising funds to support arts in the schools and maintain this new, state-of-the-art facility.

Vocal Group RPM Set for Theater 2020's IN THE MOOD Holiday Concert, 12/7

Louis Armstrong House to Honor Dick Cavett, Stephen Maitland-Lewis & Andrew P. Jackson

The Louis Armstrong House Museum announces 2014 Louie Award recipients! The Louie Award is the museum's annual award presented in honor of dedicated work to preserve and promote the cultural legacy of Louis Armstrong. This year the Louie Award will be bestowed upon Dick Cavett, legendary talk-show host and author; Andrew P. Jackson (Sekou Molefi Baako) Executive Director, Langston Hughes Community Library & Cultural Center in Queens; and Stephen Maitland-Lewis award-winning author and jazz aficionado.
